I was setting up for this weekend’s craft fair at the Fruitlands Museum today (Harvard, MA) and spotted a monarch and a clouded sulfur.
About noon, upper 70’s, wind 15-20+ mph, sunny. My booth is opposite a field of goldenrod, milkweed, and other plants, so I’m sure I’ll see more.
These I saw near the visitor’s center. The monarch seemed to be looking for nectar, but in the lawn and not out in the flower filled field! Maybe trying to get out of the wind?
I’m hoping I’ll see more over the weekend. In previous years, I’ve seen a parade of migrating monarchs flying through there. We’re expecting a light breeze out of the north on Saturday, and out of the south on Sunday.
