who Fannie Stebbins was! A friend of mine sent me to this website where I found this article: https://www.gallformers.org/source/10
So then I looked her up to learn more. Wikipedia:
The day after she died, a Holyoke, MA newspaper wrote:
"Miss Stebbins opened the books for the science of nature that is all around us and [tried] to tell us of our relationships with the trees and the rocks and the stars."
Seems to me she was a rock star herself....
