Hello everyone,

Mass Center for the Book is currently in the process of building a statewide literary map that will showcase important literary landmarks, author homes, house museums, monuments, gravesites, and more. We're using the Mapme platform, which allows us to create media-rich listings, and we have the option of including historical images, (digitized) primary sources, and public domain literary works from the authors featured.

As a baseline, we've pulled together listings from our Mass Book Trails project and from a paper prototype map that was created in the mid-2000s. That said, a lot has changed since then and we know that there are many other important sites out there. (In particular, we would love to include more sites in Western and Central Massachusetts and the Cape and Islands, and have more coverage of historically underrepresented communities, including the many Native American and African American writers and poets who have called Massachusetts home.)

We hope that our friends in historical societies, museums, archives, and libraries will consider contributing their local knowledge to this project. Here's a current list of the sites we have identified with strong literary connections.

If you have suggestions for additional literary landmarks and sites that aren't yet on our radar, we would welcome them! We have created a submission form and you can reach out to us at bookt...@massbook.org if you have any questions or ideas.

Thanks for your time and consideration,
Courtney
