Hello,
Massachusetts Center for the Book is featuring Stamped from the Beginning: A Graphic History of Racist Ideas in America by Ibram X. Kendi, adapted and illustrated by Joel Christian Gill, as our 2025 “Great Reads from Great Places” youth title at National Book Fest! As we approach the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, MCB has chosen to spotlight this striking and accessible graphic novel. Kendi and Gill show in vivid detail how racist ideas have shaped U.S. history and culture from the nation’s very beginnings.
As part of this initiative, Mass Center for the Book is giving away 500 copies of Stamped to Massachusetts-based public libraries, museums, historical societies, and cultural organizations for use in discussion groups and community programming. The best part: we will be hosting a virtual discussion and Q&A with graphic novelist, historian, and BU professor Joel Christian Gill for partners this fall!
Book boxes will contain up to 20 copies of Stamped from the Beginning, a discussion guide, and other goodies. (Please note, submission of a request does not guarantee fulfillment of the request; resources are limited and this process will be competitive.)
This title is ideal for intergenerational discussion groups and is recommended for ages 12 and up. The deadline to apply is June 6th.
To request a box, please visit the submission form here here.
