=======================
"We trained over 1,900 new firefighters to strengthen the frontline
forces across California, and we continue to expand our aviation
program with those aircraft," Wettstein said.
would you like some context on this sentence?
1. we added 2 C130 recently - usfs probably cut 5 airtankers recently
2. cal fire now has 1,900 totally inexpierenced firefighters on the
line - probably 95% true
3. 1,900 'new' firefighters - vs - the 2,000 'new' firefighters that
we laid off last year
Cal Fire seems to have a crazy staffing scheme - 50% of staff are
yearound captains and drivers and FF2 - the other 50% are rookie FF1 -
FF1 are basically totally untrained seasonal people with 2 weeks of on
the job training - gonna guess that 95% of the FF1 are hired each year
with zero experience - becaause no one wants a dangerous part time job
that has no future
otoh - maybe we are totally wrong - maybe the FF1 work 8 months and
then get 4 months of winter vacation in florida - so maybe 90% of the
FF1 have previous experience
