this video shows the exact path the ARFF took
and this comment probably explains why they missed their turn
"Just a guess. It's a time trial, organised from "above", so the arff
team isn't directly involved in setting it up. What they do know is
that the taxiway will be used to simulate the runway. When approaching
it they'd expect it to be marked as a runway as part of the
simulation. What they didn't realise was that the taxiway was left
unmarked, so the marked runway they got onto was the real thing. I've
seen this happen in the past in military exercises, so can easily see
how it could happen here"
