whistle blower hotline - anonymous tips and complaints - in the State
of Minas Gerais - concerning crimes and corrupt cops and firemen
the fire service in Minas Gerais is under State Civil Defense per
wikipedia - only Rio de Janeiro has the same arrangement in Brazil
wikipedia says that the civil cops are actually plainclothes
detectives - and the military police are the uniformed patrol cops -
not sure if we really believe that or not - we have seen civil police
marked cars with light bars
but - we can see 2 police emergency telephone numbers listed here -
The focus of this service is to respond to anonymous complaints that
result in investigation and not emergency situations. In these cases,
the numbers 190 (Military Police), 193 (Fire Department) and 197
(Civil Police) can be called.
================================
Service intended to receive information from citizens about crimes of
which they are aware and can assist police work. In Dial Denunciation
181, the identity of the complainant and accused is preserved.
To report, just call, free of charge, the number 181. The
Whistleblower Hotline works with a unified call center, made up of
trained and qualified professionals who work 24 hours a day to serve
the population. Each registered complaint is forwarded to a team of
analysts composed of a member of the Civil Police, the Military Police
and the Fire Department.
From there, the complaint is analyzed and classified according to the
operational unit of the three corporations that will adopt the
necessary measures to resolve the case. Information on the progress of
the investigations will be made available to the complainant at the
call center itself.
The informant will not need to identify himself and his call will be
kept in absolute confidentiality. The whistleblower will receive a
password to follow the investigation and, after a minimum period of 3
(three) months, may request, through the same number, information on
the progress of the investigations.
The Denunciation Hotline receives all kinds of reports about crimes,
such as robbery, drug trafficking, burglary, illegal possession of
weapons, kidnapping, illicit activities, fugitives or wanted by the
Police who are hiding somewhere.
Reports about misconduct by police officers are also the subject of
the Whistleblower Hotline. After being registered with 181, complaints
are forwarded to the internal affairs departments of the police and
fire departments. The same reports can also be addressed to the
General Ombudsman's Office of the State of Minas Gerais.
The focus of this service is to respond to anonymous complaints that
result in investigation and not emergency situations. In these cases,
the numbers 190 (Military Police), 193 (Fire Department) and 197
(Civil Police) can be called.
