to MBTA Developers

For users of our JSON alerts feeds, both standard and enhanced versions, we will soon be changing the effect_detail and cause_detail fields to be TranslatedStrings instead of plain strings, in order bring the feeds closer in compliance with the general specification. We will only be publishing an "en" (English) version of effect_detail and cause_detail.

This change will occur in our JSON ServiceAlerts feeds on or sometime after Monday, June 8th, 2026. If you use these feeds, we ask that you ensure support for TranslatedStrings for these two fields, as this could pose a breaking change for you otherwise.

Users of our standards-compliant Protobuf feed will see no change here—the two fields in question are already published in the TranslatedString type.
