Hi All,

I have the unfortunate news that David Brown, of North Quincy passed away in February.  If anyone has his address, could you please send it to me? We had an email correspondence going, and I would like to print off and send it to his family, he was such a thoughtful kind person I think it might be nice for them to read.  I also want to do a walk / trip around his Neponset River / Squantum patch in his honor at some point.

For those that didn't know him, he was a great guy, and in my short time emailing back and forth with him I learned quite a bit.  Back in early September, he contacted me after one of my posts; I had mentioned birding as I got older and was about to turn 40. He had some great wisdom on aging and told me his story of how he continued to bird even after his mobility was limited.  After this, we struck up an email correspondence and he told me about his life filled with family, adventure, nature, and birds.  He watched the ABA take off and mentioned Herman (and Glenn) D'Entremont, Ida, Patty O'Neil, and so many people he crossed paths with, many from the previous generations of birders.  He was a great connection to that amazing group.  His birding stretched back far enough to Bachman's Warbler, Ivory-billed pecker, and Eskimo Curlews.  As he said, " So many stories to tell, but it will have to wait for now. "

David birded when he was healthy, then limped when his legs started to go, then birded by car when he couldn't get around anymore, nothing stopped him.  One email he signed off noting that a thunderstorm that was supposed to brew up was not coming through, after all, so he had to hit the road and go see what birds were around.

He also struck me as such a sweet person, I wrote on Massbird once about Winter and when we emailed later he said: "I enjoyed your personal summation of your feelings as winter comes in.  Very upbeat.  However, I do experience a little loneliness in going out and not seeing much.  I miss my bird pals. " I miss them too my friend.  Then when writing about a Merlin he spotted a few years in a row until its favorite tree was altered by a storm "...I miss him a lot--can you understand?".  I think we all can.

We both agreed that we would keep birding til our last moments, and I hope he got to in his final days.  He wrote once, "I will continue birding avidly under whatever conditions I can, "until death do us part".  And I know you'll do the same."  Goodbye my friend, you're right, I will do the same.  I can't wait to see you and go watch God's flock together.  I hope the Ivory bills are as magnificent as you remember.
