Hello Massbirders,

Two quick parking etiquette questions:

Any particulars of where to park for the Cambridge (Hobbs Brook) Reservoir?  I have yet to visit, but I took a quick look at Google Earth/Maps and didn't see any clear parking area.

Also, a friend and I went searching for the Northern Strike at Dunback Meadows and the Waltham Street Fields last week.  We'd never been to the fields before and didn't know the parking and general etiquette for that area.  We ended up parking at the golf course and walking down the street. Is there a better place?  The fields seem like part of a private farm/residence.  Are they friendly to birders?

Thanks for any guidance!

Warmly,

Meaghan

At Hobbs Brook Basin there is room to pull to the side of the road east
of the overlook to the basin. Right now there is construction on this
road, and the only access to the overlook is from the Route 2 access.
There is a sign saying "Local access only" but you would be local so no
problem there.

The Waltham Street Fields are owned by the town but leased by a farmer
who is birder friendly. This friendliness was tested last year when the
Ground-Dove was there and people occasionally blocked the road into the
fields which the farmer needs access to so be sure not to block this
access. There are two sets of fields: one opposite Allen Street beside a
garden store (can't remember the name) and there is room for a couple of
cars without blocking the road to the fields or the store. The other is
opposite Brookside Avenue. There is room for one or two cars beside the
traffic light on Waltham Street, and if you are uncomfortable with that
you could park by the tennis courts at the end of Brookside (weekends
only - you won't find parking there on a school day)
