Hi Birders,
Sorry for the delayed report:
I spent some time yesterday cruising the Merrimack River from Amesbury
to Merrimac (and back) looking for the Golden Eagle seen off Deer
Island Park a week or so ago. Not much eagle activity that far up
river. But I decided to check around the Chain Bridge since that was
where the eagle had been seen most often. Before I checked the parking
lot at Deer Island Park, I drove down Old Merrill Rd (on the north side
of the Chain Bridge along the river) and saw a dark eagle fly out of
view. Then I met up with Joanne and Lee ( it was a delight birding with
you ladies), and we found a Golden Eagle sitting in a deciduous tree
close to Deer Island with 2 immature Bald Eagles. The Golden then flew
off with its two Bald Eagle buddies. It did return briefly but flew off
behind Deer Island.
If you are up in that area, its worth the time to look for this bird.
It may take a little patience - lots of Bald Eagles in that areas.
As well, I've just been told from someone else who saw the Golden this
a.m. that the bird seen yesterday (and today) may well be a different
eagle from the one previously being seen. Two Golden Eagles? What a
thrill!
Good birding and good luck if you try for it,
Linda
