Subject: 9/29 One Hundred Plus Migrating Chimney Swifts at Millennium Park,
Etc
I birded here from 11:35=2:05, Shortly after my arrival, I witnessed
something that was quite surprising to me. Two waves of Chimney Swifts
came through within five minutes of each other. They were heading in a
southerly direction, coming over the high school, then my head and
then the hill. I was standing at the edge of the football field at the
time. I'm surprised that they were migrating during the day:
Wood Duck x heard one or more
accipiter sp. 1
Sharp-shinned Hawk 1
Cooper's Hawk 1
Killdeer 1
CHIMNEY SWIFT 100+ two groups of thirty and seventy plus
Hairy Woodpecker 2
Eastern Phoebe 1
House Wren 3
Palm Warbler 1
Common Yellowthroat 1
Savannah Sparrow 3 surprisingly low
Swamp Sparrow 3
Song Sparrow 25+
Indigo Bunting 3 two together on weedy slope below the middle parking
area if facing the football field
