The purpose of this meeting is to present the Anderson Memorial Bridge
Rehabilitation project, alternatives being evaluated as part of the design
process and to present the Environmental Notification Form (ENF). The ENF was
filed with MEPA on January 31, 2011. Following an introduction by MEPA staff,
and a project presentation by MassDOT, MEPA staff will lead a discussion to
answer questions and gather public comment on the ENF and environmental impacts
of the project. Interested parties are encouraged to submit comments about the
ENF and the project in writing to the MEPA Office by March 4, 2011. Copies of
the ENF may be obtained on the project website at
www.mass.gov/massdot/charlesriverbridges or by contacting Michael Trepanier at
Michael....@state.ma.us. Please send copies of comments to MassDOT.
The rehabilitation project described in the ENF is proposed by MassDOT through
the Commonwealths Accelerated Bridge Program (ABP). The goals of the project
are to improve the bridges structural integrity and enhance accessibility. The
proposed project consists of the rehabilitation of the existing bridge,
including the rehabilitation of the existing arches, replacing the existing
bridge lighting, spandrel, parapet walls and staircase. The existing bridge will
be modified to accommodate bicycle lanes in each direction and proposes
improvements to the intersections of North Harvard Street with both Memorial
Drive and Soldiers Field Road. Built in 1915, the Anderson Memorial Bridge is
listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places as an integral and
contributing component of the Charles River Basin Historic District. The
proposed rehabilitation will respect the documented historic status of this
landmark structure and preserve as many of the original elements as possible.
