A new T report has found:
• The Ride’s cost is ballooning by 16 percent a year, rising from $50 million in 2007 to $97 million last year. It’s projected to hit $112 million this fiscal year.
• The T’s cost of a single trip has risen from $30 to $40 and is expected to go to $45 later this year.
• Ridership has grown by 10 percent annually, from 1.6 million trips in 2007 to 2.4 million last fiscal year, and is on pace to peak at 2.6 million this fiscal year.
• The Ride ranks high per capita among large transit agencies, with 61,000 registrants out of 2.5 million people, or 2.4 percent — well ahead of New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.
