holy shit! ranj! how the hell are you?

on the issue of japanese classes: you weren't in some sort of master's
program over there were you? because if you were, you might qualify
for a bunac visa (but only if it was a masters that's accredited
through a school in the states). failing that, there are a ton of
schemes that you might be able to get in on, first to come to mind is
the highly skilled migrant worker's scheme, which is done through a
point system, mostly for people with lots of degrees and lots of
experience in their field of work (how long have you been teaching
english? you might be a....gasp...professional!)

here, check out this website for schemes:

http://www.workingintheuk.gov.uk/working_in_the_uk/en/homepage/schemes_and_programmes/graduate_students.html?

how is your kare getting over here? through his work? he might be
able to sponsor you,but maybe only if you're, like, marrried.

(which relates closely to the topic of why i'm, like, married).

and there's a working holiday program for japanese citizens, just in
case you're crazy and have gotten yourself a passport already.

i'm intimidated! you can actually speak fluent japanese now! you'll
be able to tell how crap my japanese is!!!

but i'm learning french,,,,,

I would say, don't plan on getting much of a job under the table.
people want to see national insurance numbers and all sorts of
validation here. except for fruit shops. you can work there, for,
like, 3 quid an hour. illegal work = illegal pay in this country, i'd
seriously recommend trying all of the available legal routes. maybe
even something like enrolling in a cheap course and getting a student
visa. learn a new skill AND get to work, two birds with one stone!
you can only work 20 hrs/wk on a student visa, but that's plenty if
you find a cheap place to share with your boyfriend.

wh wants t wrk mre than that, anyway...?

h my gd. tw minutes ag the cmputer was dubling all f my "0s" nw it
wn't type any. bldy hell.

anyways, i'm S00000000 ecited t see yu! i'm using zer0s s0 inventive.

we are ging t LIVE in the same cuntry!!!!

lvelve,

ailin

Thanks for the info Ai-chan. We'll definitely have to get together in
London. I won't bring any incriminating photos if you won't.

And as for being fluent, don't worry. No matter how much I study, I
will never match your ability to discuss "oppai" and "chin chin."

MANJ! Thanks for the shout out! Hanj, are you reading this? Join in
on the Andrea lovin'!

When i think about how i can't remember any japanese, i think of Ailin
and her eloquent discussion of 'boobies' with the unsuspecting japanese
women in schnieder....
No one remembers japanese the way Ailin does. ;)
Ahh, the memories....
Randrea, i burn with envy at all your time in Nihon. want to hear
more!

Not just any Japanese woman... it was my very dear friend Mayo, who was
lost and trying to find me. Despite many years of therapy, she has not
yet recovered from her encounter with Ailin.

And so you shall. I will be happy to regale you with stories from
Japan, just as soon as I get back from my trip. Which brings me to...

A PARTY!

Boston-area alumnae! There seem to be a lot of you, and some of you
have emailed me about having a mini-reunion this weekend. If you're
interested, email me or post to Mask & Quill about what you want to do
and when. Here are my suggestions:

Option A: A Friday night movie (Borat!, anyone?), followed by
dinner/drinks/dancing whatever we feel like. Elana has some good ideas
about where to go for that.

Option B: Saturday morning dim sum in Chinatown.

(Note: I'll probably be doing both of these things regardless, so if
the object is just to be tortured with many, many pictures of Japan and
boring A Ro-talk, you don't have to choose at all! But let's try to
gather as many people in one place and at one time, because I'm sure
there's lots of people who are in the Boston area who haven't seen each
other in a long while...)

I will also be in Boston this weekend, but I probably won't be getting
in until pretty late on Friday night and will be occupied with some
theater kids on Saturday morning, so I'm not sure either of those will
work for me. However I'll probably be in the city later on Saturday
and/or Sunday, and will also probably stop by campus sometime on Sunday
and/or Monday morning before I head back to NYC, so if any of you will
be around then let me know. My cell is (508) 785-5339, so keep me
posted regardless and I will do my very best to get to whatever
reunions are happening, as I would love to see you all! Hope to see you
soon!

Morgan :)

Ok. We have a plan.. sort of. There will be a get together on Friday
night, probably a modest affair. But I think we're going to have
people from '01, '02, '03, '04, '05 and '06. Yay!

The pre-party: Dinner, coffee, chatting at Au Bon Pain in Harvard
Square starting around 6pm.
The main event: The 7:45 showing of Borat at the Loews Harvard Square.
The after party: Probably drinks at Charlie's.

So, if you're in the Boston area, just show up at any point!
