There's an interesting discussion happening over at Hacker News,
titled "What Would you want in a government API?" (http://
news.ycombinator.com/item?id=442078)
The dominant focus among the posters so far is on accountability at
the Federal level. In addition to a bunch of great suggestions for
government APIs (and some pretty funny ones), a number of existing
resources have been brought up, such as
http://usaspending.gov/ an the
NY Times Congress API (
http://open.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/01/08/
introducing-the-congress-api/)
Not mentioned on that site, but relevant to those of us in Rhode
Island is our state's GovTracker API (
http://www.state.ri.us/
govtracker/).
In keeping with Mashable City's focus, what APIs & mashups would you
like to see at the city government level? Care to share any examples
of these technology already being used in our community or elsewhere?
