Yahoo! and Mashable have announced a mashup contest at http://mashable.com/boss/
Yahoo! Search BOSS is an API to Yahoo!'s search engine, which can help
your app find web pages, news, and various media. I've only played
with it a little bit, but it seems pretty solid.
For the Ruby programmers out there, there is a gem "jpignata-bossman"
which wraps the API calls into a nice interface. So far, that's all
I've used, but I'm sure there are more options out there.
For anyone who's had any ideas for localized (or not) mashups
involving search, this looks like a good motivator to get working on
that app. Grand prixe is $2000, and your app would be in front of a
lot of people when the public voting begins. Deadline for entry is
Sept 28, 2008.
