Hi all,

Hope ya'll are doing great :)

Can anyone please share the advantages and disadvantages of the marzipano tool? I'm a bit new to this and would like to learn more.

Hi,

Well, my point of view;
PRO's;
- Easy to make a simple slideshow
- Fully adjustable
- Free for (non)commercial use
- Downloadable and hostable on your own server. No dependencies

CON's;
- The slideshow you make has only basic functionality; info-hotspots and navigation hot-spots,
- The Marzipano tool is not "alive". No more upgrades. Some basic functionalities are missing (for example: target hotspot POV/Yaw/Pitch not avaible, but can be build if you have JS-skills)
- The Marzipano community is small
- Skills in programming/scripting are needed if you want to add specifics (for example: popups, youtube video's, etc). So not a fast workflow.

You can view a comparison of virtual tours here;

Tour software that resembles Marzipano is Panellum. https://pannellum.org/

Good luck

To remove confusion, Marzipano itself is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license which permits fully free commercial use (not just non-commercial): https://github.com/google/marzipano/blob/master/LICENSE

The Marzipano TOOL itself isn't well documented in terms of licensing, but the index.js file claims it uses the Apache 2.0 license as well (which says nothing about other bundled code used on the site) https://www.marzipano.net/tool/template/app-files/index.js?5d83318
