Greetings Maryland Math Teacher Educators,

I hope the fall semester is going well. I’m writing to share information about upcoming events and opportunities.

  1. Our affiliate organization, the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM), will have its annual conference on Friday, October 18th at Reservoir High School in Howard County. This year’s keynote speaker is Howie Hua. We encourage you to:
    1. Bring your students to the conference. It's a great opportunity for them to attend sessions, network, and win raffle prizes.
    2. Attend. Early bird pricing ends Sep 22. There will be an AMMTE table where you can update your membership and an AMMTE meet-and-greet from 1:30-2:30pm to catch up with old friends and make new ones! Many AMMTE members are presenting at the conference so look for their sessions.

  1. AMMTE will host a series of virtual discussions on Friday November 1st, 15th, and 22nd from 9:00-10:30am. Here are the topics for each date:
    1. November 1stedTPA
    2. November 15thAI/Computational Thinking
    3. November 22ndInternship evaluations

Registration is free for AMMTE members so be sure to join or renew your membership via Member Planet.

  1. Our annual Early Career Teacher Conference will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at University of Maryland, College Park. The call for proposals will come out on October 18th and be due on November 22nd. In the meantime, think about how you will encourage your students and recent graduates to participate. New this year - in addition to featuring traditional conference presentations, there will be the opportunity for poster presentations.

  1. One of our board members, Dr. Karen Terrell, is co-editing a book on STEM and culturally sustaining pedagogies. If you are interested in submitting a proposal, please see the attached call for chapters. Note that the deadline is October 20, 2024.

Best,

Ming Tomayko

President, AMMTE
