WELCOME & WELCOME BACK
Hello and welcome to the newly renamed MMET Guild (we call it “met”
rather than saying each letter individually). My name is Mary
Wilcox. I and Diane Kutinsky are MMET’s 2010-2011 guild Co-
Presidents. Let me just start off by saying this is going to be one
AMAZING year for our MMET students. I send out lots of emails and try
to communicate with the parents and students as much as possible. To
make that communication more efficient, and because of the large
number of email addresses I have we have gone to Google Groups to send
messages. Please be patient with me as I learn to use this new
tool. :-)
Just remember if you don’t read our messages, you won’t know what is
going on.
Tuesday August 31st was our big APA kick-off and parent orientation
meeting. We started in the auditorium where APA director Diane Makas
introduced the APA faculty. She discussed in detail the Walk for the
Arts/Community Campaign and a few other items and then we headed for
the MMET studio/classrooms for our own meet and greet!
For those of you who are new, I think it is important to define the
purpose of the MMET Guild. Guild is essentially the same as a booster
club. We raise money, figure out how to spend it, coordinate shows
and other events, organize volunteers and try to make sure that
everyone has a good time while working with us! But classroom issues,
teaching techniques & curriculum, auditions, song choice, rehearsal &
show schedules, etc are the responsibility of Mr. Knight and Mr.
Simmons. Please direct all of these types of concerns/questions to
them. Other items such as the family pledge, Walk for the Arts,
contracts & forms, enrollment and class schedule changes are handled
through the APA Office and Susan West the APA Business Manager. The
MMET Executive Board will do our very best to help in whatever way we
can and we look forward to a great year working with all of you.
On the “PAGES” tab on our Google Groups site is a copy of the agenda
from our first meeting. There is some good information there and the
bulk of it is self explanatory; please email me at
mmet...@hbapa.org
if you have any questions or comments.
I am also working on posting information about the Walk for the Arts/
Community Campaign. This is APA’s most important fundraiser and I
know most of you are frustrated by it. Please read it, my hope is
that it will clear up any confusion & frustrations you may have.
Another item of business, our by-laws, show & parent meeting dates and
our proposed budget are coming soon to the MMET Group site. ( And
remember there is a calendar on the APA website too). I am also
putting together a contact list for Board Members, Committee Chairs,
MMET faculty and anyone else I may have forgotten to mention.
Again we are excited about all the great things happening in MMET and
can’t wait for this coming year.
Sincerely,
Mary Wilcox and Diane Kutinsky
