Hi All,

Last Sunday Marty called me to announce some very difficult news.  Due to some health issues, he has decided to give up teaching.  As we can all imagine, this decision did not come easy.  While we are all extremely brokenhearted about it, we certainly understand his decision.  Our incredibly wonderful, amazing, inspiring 92 year old coach has defied the odds several times to get back to teach us on the court.  Last spring he broke his hip during a drill and was back on the court in 2 months with a new hip.  That, with his positive attitude to go along with it, had us all in awe.
What Marty has done for our tennis games is positively incredible.  What he has done for our spirits is immeasurable.
92 years old - WHAT A RUN!
Please stay tuned as we try to figure out how we are going forward with the gifts that Marty has given us.
Much love and gratitude to all of you for being part of this amazing experience with this incredible human being.  There are no words.  For the last 18 years or so, it has been an absolute honor and privilege for me to organize this very special experience we've shared.
If you'd like to - please reply all with your favorite "Marty-ism" .

💕🙏🎾

Cheese and crackers, this is such sad but understandable news. We are all so lucky to have had the blessing of Marty in our lives for so much more than just tennis!  xo - Christine Salmon

Maureen, I am so sorry to hear this news!!! Thank you for letting us know, And I am more annoyed at myself for not making the effort to join in at least one of his drills. They were the absolute best!!! One of my new years resolutions was to try to sub. to at least  make the drive once in awhile .He was worth it.
He is certainly an incredible person and will be missed on the courts by everyone who played. And I wish him nothing but the best.
Thank you, and thank you for all that you have done over the years in keeping his drills going .

So sad to hear this!  Marty has been a wonderful teacher.  He was a wonderful instructor.  His lessons were not just about tennis, but about life too!  What an inspiration.

“I did goofers”

I love everything about the time I spent with Marty. More than a tennis coach, Marty was a life coach. I learned so much from him and will always be grateful for his friendship and mentorship!

What an amazing man he is! I wasn’t able to attend any clinics in the past 5 years or so but he sure left a lasting impression on me! His kindness and patience are limitless!! He will definitely be missed! What a blessing to have had the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful group! Thank you for all your organizing, Maureen!!

I moved to NC seven years ago and chose to remain on the “Marty thread” just to keep up with news about him. Of course this day would come, but gosh how sad for so many, especially Marty. He is the perfect example of how I wish all seniors could be (including myself!). He is positive, energetic, kind, thoughtful, full of wisdom and FUN. He is the whole package and aren’t we lucky that we got to share a great sport with such a lovely human. I wish him the very best with his health challenges.
A special thank you to you Maureen for organizing this group for so long. I miss being a part of it.

To Marty.
I'll truly miss seeing you on the court and am grateful for everything you've taught me so much more then tennis.  You've made an impact on so many of us with your patience, encouragement and Martyisms. Thank you for everything. You will always be my coach.

Marty is a true legend !
He  has taught  me so much over these past several years !!
His best achievement I belueve  is  being the lynchpin for gathering so many lovely ,gracious women to enjoy each other's company week after week . what a legacy 💙!
Only Marty could do that !

I too haven't been to one of Marty's drills in about 5 years but have remained on this thread just to stay updated on the drills.  Maureen, your dedication and hard work organizing this group over the years has truly been as inspirational as Marty's coaching!  What great teamwork!  Thank you for all the memories and God Bless you both.
