Hi everyone. So I have launchbox. I am adding platform by platform. I have a decrypted rom to test - super Mario 3D Land. It works fine in Citra standalone but when I try to load in either of the two available cores in retroarch it starts to land the rom and then closes back to the desktop.

Except there's no option to enter Citra in launchbox It doesn't appear in the drop down box and you can't just type Citra into the field. So I can set the path fine but it still wants Citra typed into the emulator field which I can't do. What am I missing?

Yes - I think it's asking me to associate a platform to the emulator. However - I have chosen the platform (Nintendo 3DS) and then I get the "add emulator" screen which is where I get this error message

When you add Citra manually during a rom import you also have to add the name to the Associated Platform list for the emulator itself. In the screen where you fill in the emulator name and Application Path on the left hand side you should see a tab called "Associated Platform". Click that and add the exact name of the platform you gave for your emulator. It needs to be the exact way you named the platform.

My question; with the Citra 3DS emulator, is there any way for the emulator to register the passing of real time while inactive? For example, if I start an Animal Crossing game on the emulator, stop, and then come back an hour, is it possible to reboot the emulation with an hour having passed on the system as well as IRL? The reason I ask is because of course games like AC, Tomodachi Life etc rely on real time passing like this to work normally. Any input would be ideal

Citra is a Nintendo 3DS emulator for Android that's capable of running tons of games from this console's catalog at full speed. This is the developer's first official public version after several forks or versions modified by third parties have popped up. It compiles some of the features implemented by the other versions and unifies them in a common project that, after several years of upgrades, has finally reached its prime.

The emulator can show both screens of the console in real time, or you can choose to see only one in full screen and assign a button to alternate between both. As for the controls, you can customize the touch buttons as you please, although your screen will most likely be filled with virtual controls. That said, Citra's official version supports external physical controllers.

Citra supports a large number of games from the Nintendo 3DS catalog, many of which have significantly better graphics than what you'd find on the original platform. Games like Pokmon Sun and Moon and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds look incredible. You can even add graphic modifications to add higher resolution textures.

Citra is quite possibly the best and most advanced Nintendo 3DS emulator available for Android. We're talking about an open-source project created altruistically that lets you enjoy your laptop games from the comfort of your Android smartphone.

The requirements for using Citra Emulator on Android are pretty basic. Almost any mid-range device with Android 7.0 or higher, plus a Snapdragon 750 processor or better, can play games without any trouble.

Dear Citra developer can you please downgrade the android version requirements to 8.1 both the canary and nightly since I have the phone version below 9 now I'm stuck using old version and I really wa...See more

Uptodown is a multi-platform app store specialized in Android. Our goal is to provide free and open access to a large catalog of apps without restrictions, while providing a legal distribution platform accessible from any browser, and also through its official native app.

Citra is a discontinued[5] free and open-source emulator of the handheld Nintendo 3DS for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. Citra's name is derived from CTR, which is the model name of the original 3DS.[1] Citra can run many homebrew games and commercial games.[6]

Citra was first made available in 2014. The core team behind it went on to develop Nintendo Switch emulator Yuzu in 2018.[7] Support for Citra by the Yuzu team was dropped on March 5, 2024, following a $2.4 million settlement reached with Nintendo of America.[8]

Citra has been able to emulate audio since May 21, 2016,[12] and has had a JIT compiler since September 15, 2016.[13] In November 2017, Citra announced networking support for the emulator.[14] The networking support emulates the 3DS's local Wi-Fi, which originally made it possible to play over local networks. Additionally, Citra allows the networking to be compatible with other users anywhere.[1] In April 2020, the Citra Team announced compatibility with New Nintendo 3DS games and support for save states,[15][16] and in May 2020, they announced a version of Citra for Android.[17][18] In September 2023, support for Vulkan was added as an experimental alternative to OpenGL.[19][20] In March 2024, Nintendo and Yuzu developer Tropic Haze LLC reached a settlement prompting Tropical Haze to shut down operations for Yuzu. Additionally, Tropical Haze agreed to surrender or cease working on any project that involved Nintendo's copyrighted properties, and as a result support for Citra was dropped by the developers.[21][22]

You might've been hearing about Yuzu, the switch emulator, coming under fire. As part of the settlement, citra, basically the only 3DS emulator, was taken down with it. The github is gone, and I'm sure the website will be gone soon too.

This is serious. You were worried about the precedent, it's already happening. Nintendo will have this case to draw on for future litigation against any emulator it wants (see first comment, it was settled out of court; a quick search will yield many articles, take your pick). This effectively took down two emulators with just bullying alone (not rom sites like in the past); this still sets a bad precedent in my book.

I really want to drive this home: citra was the only playable 3DS emulator. 3DS emulation is currently dead, until someone picks it back up. The discord was nuked today, there is currently no organized community. Yuzu was not the only switch emulator, but there is no other 3DS emulator.

this is definitely something to be concerned about, emulation is necessary for game preservation, but this case was settled out of court and thus no legal decision or precedent was come to. something to watch out for in future legal cases though

Thank you, I made an edit to indicate as such. It unfortunately doesn't change the fact that currently, we don't have a 3DS emulator beyond people sharing/hosting an unsupported final build from potentially untrustworthy sources.

yeah. i have just seen unironic takes (not necessarily only here) that the settlement is effectively meaningless to the rest of the emulation community because It Didnt Go To Trial Emulations Still Legal, without considering anything about how, uh, there's a giant monster in the room and it's already eaten someone.

Yeah I don't think this is meaningless, just want to make sure that's clear. It is scary. But, I hope that maybe we could see a big case that gets settled in court that says "emulation and hardware modification is fine actually." Which, really should be the case? Like I own my switch let me dump the firmware and game carts if I want fuck you Nintendo. I mean I think legally that is the case in the US currently, at least for anything that hasn't been released by Hollywood or the music industry. But obviously that could change very fast for video games if Nintendo is doing shit like this.

IIRC I believe the term for this sort of situation where the threat of legal action is enough to intimidate and deter despite no legal precedent being set is "chilling effect", and I think it would be a good idea to call this that to avoid getting confused as to whether we're talking about precedents in the colloquial sense or the legal sense.

From what I heard, forks of Citra should be fine as the lawsuit was only really about the distribution and usage of Yuzu. They took down the original Citra github for the sake of nuking everything, but since there was no mention of Citra in the lawsuit, forks using its code should still be fine. For example, the multiplayer fork the CTGP-7 people made is still up:

Awesome, Just tried it, Looks Awesome! but unfortunately 3ds Emulation needs a little more development to run smoothly on the 845 I think, Do You think Dolphin would be possible in stereoscopic 3d? Since Gamecube Games Seem to be less demanding to The Processor. Or maybe a mmj build with enabled Speed Hacks could smooth out some of the Slowdowns?
