Charles: I'm interviewing today, Norm Bettencourt, reality-based
street fighting instructor who's going to talk about a subject that
most martial artists and so-called street fighters mostly avoid which
is why you should bite when you fight. And so, first of all, Norm,
tell us about yourself and give us a little bit of background about
who you are.
Norm: Well, I'm a black belt and I run the only scenario based self
defense training school that I know of right now, so that half of my
training center is set up as a back alley and the other half has an
apartment setting, and I teach people how to fight in real-world
situations. I also have 15 years of experience working in the security
industry, everything from bouncing to bodyguarding to doing regular
security work.
Charles : Okay, here comes the big question: Why should one bite when
they fight? Can you give us some reasons why, some tips why or secrets
why?
Norm: For sure.
First Of All - Biting Is Primal - It is so barbaric that what happens
is is that it causes a psychological response in your attacker. You
see, what happens when you bite him is that he begins to get freaked
out mentally. Why? Because he's not use to that kind of thing. For
him, he's expecting fists and feet in that fight. When you bite, it
changes the whole mindset of that fight that is going on.
The Second One - Biting Can Be Done From Pretty Much Any Position -
All you have to do is sink you teeth into exposed skin, clamp down
nice and hard, and you're going to bite like a dog, and you're going
to tear that flesh. You can either tug at it. You can either shake
your head, and rip that flesh off--any of these ways that you choose
will always be an effective technique.
The Third Reason Why You Should Bite - It Works On Anyone, Regardless
Of Their Size - You don't have the variable that this may or may not
work. It always works! It doesn't matter if the guy is 350 pounds, you
bite his finger off. You bite his cheek off or ear off, you get the
same response. He lets go. He gets freaked out. You then have the
fight completely in your control. And you can take him out.
Charles : Wow! Now that we understand that, if we have to, we will be
doing much more biting and a lot more winning from here on out. Thanks
so much for this, Norm.
Norm: You bet.
