In the field of self defense and self protection there are really only
two common types of fears to contend with and to overcome.
The First Fear Is The Fear of Fighting and Possibly Getting Hurt -
This is a natural first blush reaction of self protection, that of
avoiding danger, but danger can't always be avoided.  Sometimes
the devil will meet you at your doorstep, figuratively speaking of
course.
The Second Fear,Though Less Observed But Just As Prevalent, Is The
Fear of Hurting Another
In a way this is understandable because this is a reflection of your
humanity and your recognition that we are all one and are all human
beings.  I'm sorry, but all of your humanistic philosophy will
have to go out of the window when your life and that of a loved-one is
threatened.

You As A Human Being Have The Right To Survival  and the right to
live in peace with other human beings, but the minute someone else
arbitrarily decides to violate your right to survival and to live in
peace by attacking you, assaulting you or robbing you, it is not only
your right but your obligation to defend yourself and all that is
yours.  So, philosophically, it is a bad move to decide to hold
back on fully and violently defending yourself once your life is in
danger.

3 Reasons Why Failing To Quickly Damage An Assailant Is A Mistake And
Can Get YOU Hurt or Killed:
Reason #1 - You Tend To Hold Back Your Blows And Do Not Thoroughly
Commit - If you are holding back your blows, in essence you are only
"play fighting" while the other person is fighting you for real.
Reason #2 - You Allow Your Aggressor To Recover Quickly  - If you
are going to allow your assailant to recover, you might as well have
him sit down, give him a nice neck massage and once he tells you that
he feels totally refreshed and ready to go, you can let him get back
up and finish giving you the royal  "A...whipping" you deserve.
Reason #3 - Once You Hit An Attacker In An Uncommitted Way, You Allow
Him To Become Even More Angry And Aggressive  - If you hit
someone as though you are not really trying to cause any damage, don't
you think that a street savvy aggressor will immediately pick up on
that and then unleash the gates of hell on you by becoming ten times
more aggressive and destructive?
The bottom line is quite simple -once you commit to your first blow,
make it fast, make it hard and make it without  mercy.
