Charles:  Now our subject tonight is a very, very important one
things that have affected many of us, even yours truly, and, David, I
want to have your take and help on the subject of how to protect
yourself against a home invasion.  Can you give us the steps in
doing this?
David:  Absolutely, I am going to provide you with several.
Charles:  Okay.
David:  The first thing that we have to remember is a little bit
of common sense goes a long way.

First Thing We Want To Do Is:

Be Aware Of Our Surroundings As We Are Getting Out Of Our Car and
Walking To Our Front Door. That's paramount!

The Second Thing We Want To Do Is:

Look For Any Strange Vehicles That Are In The Area. If there is a
strange vehicle in the area, be extra cautious as to if there is
someone in that vehicle.  If not, where could they possibly be?

The Third Thing We Want To Do Is:

Walk To Your Door With Your Keys In Your Hand. If you're answering the
door, don't just merely answer it.  Inquire who's on the other
side.  Make sure that you are expecting them, or if it someone
who claims to be there in some official capacity, confirm
that.   Call the utility company or the police station where
they are claiming to be from.  Don't just answer your door.
They could be anybody saying that they are anyone.
And another thing that I like to tell people is:

#1 Invest In A Home Security System
#2 Trim The Hedges Around Your House - Those tall hedges might look
pretty, but they provide the perfect hiding place for a would-be
attacker.

Charles:  And what about lighting?
David:  Definitely have lighting outside of the house.
Motion Sensor Lighting is always a great thing to have in your
walkway, and that's a great point, Charles.
Charles:  Excellent.  Excellent.  Well, the thing is
that we need to think now in terms of these things, so we're not
trying to figure out what to do later when it's way too late to
prepare.  Remember, it wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.
David:  (Laughter.)  You got that right, Charles.
Charles:  Again, David, thank you very much.
David:  Thank you, Charles.
