Jeff:
I really was talking to a friend about you just moments before I
got your email. Honestly, I would recommend teams bring their 2018
robots (if they still work) and set up a "scale" so that two teams
(one on one) can try to out tip their opponents with a bunch of
cubes. It would be compact, fun, and a good challenge for drivers
and teams. Baring that, 2019 robots doing something similar with
the balls could be fun. Perhaps placing balls into some common
structure with a need for quantity of balls and precise
placement. Reduce the need to race around and then the space
requirements are minimized. My schedule shows a possible family
trip to Ohio to see distant relatives on June 1st, but that trip
might not happen. I am copying our team leadership for outreach
events so as to get this on our calendar.
Looking forward to seeing you in Detroit.
Earl
EarlWill be seeing you in Detroit. I will be judging this year. Told Diane that was going to be my vacation this year, and our FTC team made it to PA State's but had some challenges. Did get a Judges' Award though. So I get to go as a judge.
Below and attached is information on the Mars New Year Celebration on June 1.
Feel free to share with any other teams you have contact info for.
Still working on what and how for the FRC teams. Trying to work on space options. If weather permits, we will be outside. Need to come up with something for the FRC robots to run around on with enough space to make it fun. Any ideas?
Jeff
Hello FIRST Team,
This is Jeff Beckstead, Mars Robotics Association. We are a FIRST robotics organization with FTC and FLL teams. Our community has a great opportunity for students to meet and talk with NASA scientists and engineers, and learn about NASA's mission to Mars, and other space exploration.
As part of this event, our group has put on a robotics exhibit, and would like to invite your team to come to Mars, PA to share your experience and meet new FIRST teams.
Our students have been working hard on finalizing games for the Mars New Year Exploration event. It has taken awhile while our kids brainstorm and work through the elements but we have tried to make it very straight-forward as an educational training game so your teams can improve their skills or show them off.
Below and attached are details. I hope your team is able to attend, and have fun on either game field or just attend, explore Mars, meet NASA scientists and engineers, and see all the cool stuff they bring..
This packet includes information on the Lego League and FTC games. Please feel free to share with other teams you may thing are interested.
Please use the Google for at this link to let us know you will be attending
If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me.Jeff Beckstead
Mars New Year Exploration – May 31 to June 2, 2019ExploreNow that you have explored your Earth’s environment, come to Mars (Mars, PA that is) and help us celebrate Mars New Year at Mars Exploration Celebration event Friday May 31 to Sunday June 2 (Primary robotics competition will be Saturday June 1); Friday and Sunday will be demonstration days if you are able to attend.
InnovateImprove upon your team’s 2018-2019 FIRST robot by competing on FLL Into Orbit, FTC Rover Ruckus or FRC Destination: Deep Space fields
Innovate by expanding the capabilities of your competitive robot or a new robot on our Martian themed competitions for each level (See separate game descriptions for each level.).
CelebrateParticipate in the robot song and dance competition. Robot can dance to music of team’s choice, or robot can play music. Open to all robots whether they compete on the games or not.
Share Your ExperienceShare your experience with other robotic teams, the Martian community and fellow Earthlings.
All teams are asked to have an outreach activity to teach or demonstrate STEAM principles to the Martian community and their Earthling visitors.
Come to Mars and interact with fellow FIRST teams, NASA staff and exhibits, an escape room, and other robotic and space organizations.
See the attached festival information and the FTC game descriptions.
