Upcoming deadlines:

14 Feb – This Thursday- Deans list due

FIRST signing day:

We all have seen signing days for student athletes when they pick their college or university.    We would like to do this for FIRST!   Team 2468 Team Appreciate has started a nationwide campaign and we are jumping on the bandwagon.  National FIRST signing day will be on 21 May 2019- but you can do it a different day if that works for your team.   We will provide all the paperwork files and print a big FIRST sign you can hang behind the students or on the front of the table they are sitting at.

You would need to coordinate a location- print the paperwork and advertise to the local press (example press release and social media examples included).  If you are interested in this you can check out the website   www.frc2468.org/first-signing-day/

Let me know so we can print a sign for you.   I’ll bring it to you at one of the regionals!

Alumni Hall of Fame: We are starting a new program this year at the Miami Valley and Greater Pittsburgh Regionals-   We want to recognize our FIRST Alumni who have impacted West and Central Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia (WOW) by excelling professionally, with a philanthropic organization and/or in their FIRST involvement.  We are looking for alumni who are solving problems, helping others or teaching the next generation the importance of STEM.   If you know someone who fits the criteria below- please nominate them (self-nominations are OK too!) Note: they do not have to be currently involved with FIRST.

-          A FIRST WOW Alumni: Anyone who did at least 1 year on a FIRST team in West Virginia, Ohio or West/Central PA

Or

-          Any FIRST alumni who is currently mentoring a WOW team or living in the WOW region

Or

-          Any FIRST Alumni who attended any of the WOW regionals during their student career (Buckeye, Greater Pittsburgh, Miami Valley or Queen City)

Nominations due by 25 FEB  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/18-19HallofFame

Winners will be asked to fill out a bio sheet and provide a photo so we can make a poster for our actual ‘Hall of Fame’ at the event.   The posters will be displayed for everyone at the venue to see both at the specific regional that selected them this year, and at all WOW regionals in subsequent years.

Winners will be called down to the field (if they are at the regional) and awarded a FIRST Alumni baseball hat and award.

Former Deans list winner and Student Ambassadors:   Just like last year-  we are recognizing former Dean’s list winners and student ambassadors at our WOW regionals.

If you have a student that WON Dean’s list at any regional last year- please let me know the students name and the local regional you will be at so I can make them a special nametag

If you have a student that would be a good ambassador (our students are our best representatives of the program) and they wouldn’t mind doing a couple of shifts giving people tours of pits and answering questions- have them go to their dashboards and volunteer to be a student ambassador- if they are doing this at one of our WOW regionals- I’ll also make them special nametags

Week 0:   this coming Sat!!!A great way to test your robot before you bag it up!  If you want to do this- contact the event you want to go to so you can register

Rookie/new coach Call  Last rookie call with Sr. Mentor will be on Sunday Feb 24th at 7pm.    You will be done with the build and this will be a great time to talk about the regionals- what do you need to bring- how does it all work- what should you be expecting.   We’ll give you an overview- and lots of time for questions.

Call in

Conference Number  - (267) 930-4000

   Participants Code - 591-041-607

Volunteers:  We are in need of Volunteers at all 3 regionals- from Judge to safety glass table.   If you have parents who will be coming to the event- it would be great if we could get them up close and personal to the competition!    They can volunteer through their dashboard- or if they are having trouble they can contact me and I will get them to the right place or the right volunteer coordinator!

Thanks!
