Anyone going to the race? It will be our first time at this track. I
have four year old twins. Just wanted to know of any tips,
suggestions, or reviews.

Thank you,
Kimberly :)

Kim,

Looks like this groups is still very small. Welcome as this is your
first time to Summit. The people at the track are very friendly. We
have never really ventured from the track during the weekends. In the
past on Sat nights they have a great hospitality party/dinner for
anyone there, I think they are still doing that. And a bunch of us
often walk the track and let the kids take bikes, etc around as we
go. Kids seem to really like it.

Also they now have a kids karting league that will be running their
3rd event Sunday morning. Kids have to have been thru either their
school or AllSports in Chantilly. But it would be something else for
them to watch. The karts run on the Washington circuit.

Places to eat - There is the track food, (they have ice there at
decent prices). There is a small restaurant in Summit Point (rail
side??) that has pretty good sandwiches and pizza. Berryville is
probably the closest town there is a Food Lion grocery store, subway,
pizza place and Mexican I think, pretty small town never walked thru
there to see what else is there.

There is a good variety of places to watch the racing from, thre is a
tower at turn 10 in the paddock, the stands outside 10 allow you to
see the 2 longest straights, you can go thru the woods to the infield
of the carousel and see most the corners (the road thur the word is a
bit bumpy but most cars are fine ) or you can drive back to the
outside of the carousel. there is a pat down to turn one which is a
great place to watch starts but i find a bit boring after that. My
favorite is the infield of the carousel near turn 4.

If you need anything feel free to look for us we generally paddock
near turn 10 or might be near the main bathrooms in the paddock this
year. Blue #18 miata in ITA class. What class do you guys run?

Hi Kimberly,

We're a new group and I'm hoping there will be more of us soon.

Food: The track concession stand is reasonably priced and is typical
track/stadium food - hot dogs, burgers, etc. Vegetarians will be
dissapointed. The Rail Stop Cafe - just outside the track in Summit
Point - is a wee bit more expensive, but the food is made to order and
is, IMO, much tastier. For dinner, Charles Town has gained more
restaurants and most of them are on the north and west side of town.
If you have a specific place in mind, ask someone and they can tell
you where the restaurant is located.

Kid entertainment: The paddock on a MARRS weekend is pretty crowded,
especially the paved part. If there is a burst of energy that needs to
be run off, the best place is to head back to the woods behind Pinto
Alley (you have to ask at the track) or to head outside of the paddock
where there is more than enough room to run an entire herd of 4-year
olds to exhaustion.

Similar-aged kids: There are several of us with children in roughly
the same age group back in the woods. We also have older kids who, at
least last year, were very good about being another set of eyes and
hands. Look for the Red Honda CRX #8 or Greg Amy's semi full of SRFs.

Viewing: Turn 1 is great for adults, but, IMO, not so great for little
ones. There is no seating there so it means standing. The stands you
will see as you enter the track are great and give the widest panorama
of the track. Inside turn 5 is great for being close, but you see less
of the track and, unless you have been there, you won't know how to
get there. The inside paddock roads are a jumble and it's hard to
describe how to get to the stands.

Bugs/sun: Summit can be gnatty in the mornings. In early spring, it's
likely to be cool/cold in the AM and pretty warm/hot by the afternoon.

The one thing I've noticed with the smaller kids at the track is that
they get dehydrated very easily. With so much to see/do/experience,
everyone forgets to make sure they drink enough. To be honest, I would
bet that most of the adults at the track aren't hydrating enough
either.

Hope this helps and I hope to meet you this weekend.

Jeff
