All,

Give me your feedback on any further out of region races so that I can turn it in.

Thanks,

Chuck

Subject: IMPORTANT: MARRS Out of Region Options

Good afternoon, all!

At our meeting yesterday we discussed options for Out-of-Region MARRS races in 2025.

Per our conversations, there was a consensus that VIR on May 3 - 4 (sponsored by North Carolina Region), and NJMP Lightning on May 24-25 (sponsored by South Jersey Region) are on the schedule. These events are not back-to-back with any Summit Point events.

We would like to add another out of region race to the schedule, and the following additional options were suggested. Note that we could add two more race to make a total of four out of region events, which is the same we had in 2024. I want to caveat that having more out of region events does have an impact on the Region's bottom line, in that a lot of folks have to make decisions on how many events they can race. Last year participation at Summit events was down about 10%, and the road racing program finished significantly in the red. We have added our traditional October Summit Point MARRS event back to the schedule (Oct 11-12), so there are 5 Summit Point MARRS events in 2025.

The additional options are:

  • August 9-10: Ohio Valley Region Summer Sprints at Mid-Ohio (Ohio Valley Region)
  • August 23-24: Pitt Race End of Summer Spectacular (Steel Cities): Note this in 1 week before the Labor Day MARRS. Format is the same as in past years and would run the North Course on Saturday and the full course on Sunday).
  • September 13-14: Finger Lakes Fun One at the Glen (Finger Lakes Region): Note this is not the same Glen event that MARRS ran last year. That event moved dates for 2025 and no longer fits the MARRS schedule as it is 1 week after NJMP Lightning and 1 week before the Summit June MARRS. The Fun One runs 2 different course configurations: Full course on Saturday, short course on Sunday).
  • October 18-19: Jersey Road Racing Classic at NJMP Thunderbolt (South Jersey Region): Thunderbolt has been reconfigured for 2025. Note this is 1 week after the Summit Point October MARRS.

The attached file shows the current MARRS schedule and the 4 additional options listed above. Driver Reps - Please communicate with your drivers and send me an email ranking the above 4 options from 1 to 4 in order of preference. Also please let me know if you have a strong preference on whether your group prefers one or two additional away races. As discussed at the meeting, the number of drops will be adjusted as needed so that is equal to the number of away races minus 1, meaning that to score maximum points a driver must attend at least one away race if they do all Summit Point races.

Please do this as soon as you can. I will send a reminder in a couple days.

Thank you for your willingness to help the MARRS series!

Greg

My preferences are Thunderbolt at NJMP and Pitt Race to be added. Glen hard to get track time, Mid-Ohio in August, oppressive weather (been there) and further to go than Pitt, but a great track.
