We are very very sorry for the lateness of this notice of next meeting. I would cancel the Sunday meeting if it was possible (due to late notice) but I think people have already written the date in their diaries.

 

The last meeting was great, there were some excellent ideas. Hopefully you will see this in the minutes.

Below are the minutes from the last Marrickville BDS meeting.

 

We have not yet decided whether to continue the group, so come and bring your ideas and availability.

 

 

Minutes from meeting of MarrickvilleBDS Sunday May 8, 3pm

 

There were 3 main sections of the meeting: Introductions, in which we said how much time we have, Thoughts from the council meeting, and the future.

 

*Agreed to meet again, to further develop strategy on Sunday May 29 3pm at the same location, Tom Foster Community Centre, St Peters.

*Agreed that we leave the decision on the extent of the boycott to individual organisations and consumers- that this group is not prescriptive but primarily educates individuals on possible products to boycott.

*Agreed that we will investigate the best way of working with CJPP, Friends of Hebron, Friends of Bethlehem – J to investigate before next meeting.

*Agreed that over the next two months we primarily do educational work, and piggy back on to other initiatives, promoting them in our community. The first initiative that we will promote is a debate hosted by Friends of Hebron and Leichhardt Council on the Boycott on June 18. We will do leafleting in Marrickville for this event

 

Proposals for discussion next meeting:

-To form an ongoing BDS group to educate the public about BDS. Whether we have the capacity to do this, and what kind of group we should be (local etc) is a matter for discussion.

-That we have a consumer campaign focusing on 1, 2 or 3 main supermarket products. M to bring back her thoughts on this to next meeting. Everyone is encouraged to investigate and take photographs of relevant products for later use in a website.

-That we look into creating a consumer guide into a “traffic light” system for products, with categories showing if product is produced in the occupied territories, or an Israeli company, or a company from elsewhere that invests in the Occupied Territories. A to investigate this and bring in the Greenpeace True Food Guideas an example to next meeting.

-That we look into organising a public forum on the successful campaign against South African Apartheid, and what lessons and inspiration we can draw from this campaign.

 

 

P –not much time, already has 4 meetings per week, work and study.

M1- works 20 hours per week, so has some time. 

M2- can only help in the next month or so as she is going overseas to the US

J- not much time.

A1- not much time.

M3 and A2- not much time.
