Palestine to Remember


An exhibition of photographs and information about the situation of Palestinian refugees, focusing on communities in Hebron

Our Refugee Week Festival is a free event but we appreciate your donation to help us support preschools for Palestinian children.

Programme of Events


12 midday: Doors open for market stalls, food, drink, great coffee and the photography exhibition, Palestine to Remember.

12:45pm: Official opening and launch of the photography exhibition Palestine to Remember with live Middle Eastern Music from 1.30pm.

3-4pm: Feature film "Return to Gaza". A documentary following the journey of Australian Fetah Sabawi, who started a music school for young Palestinian refugees.

4.30-6pm: Forum discusses Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions.

* Peter Slezak is a senior lecturer in philosophy at the University of New South Wales, an occasional public commentator on science, philosophy, religion and politics and co-founder of Independent Australian Jewish Voices.

* Samah Sabawi, a writer, playwright and human rights and social justice advocate.  She was born in Gaza in 1967, just before her family was displaced as a result of Israel's occupation of the Gaza Strip. Samah is now public advocate for Australians for Palestine in Melbourne.

* Joseph Wakim, OAM, former Victorian Multicultural Affairs Commissioner and founder of the Arabic Australian Council.

* Associate Professor Jake Lynch, Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies & Sydney Peace Foundation, former correspondent for the BBC, The Independent newspaper and Sky News.

Moderated by Peter Manning, senior lecturer in Journalism  at Monash University, Melbourne

6-8pm: Don't run away! We have live Middle Eastern music and delicious food. End the night listening to some great music from the Middle East, Africa and South America.

This event is organised by Leichhardt Friends of Hebron.
