Parent-Child Seminar
Theme: “Strengthening Parent-Child Dialogue to Save Future Generations”
BACKGROUND
On July 20, 2014 we [Family Life Network – FLN] conducted a parents’ consultation seminar under the theme, “Your Child’s Sex Education: Be in the Know and Get Involved”. The seminar was an “eye opener” for many parents who came to understand the dangers that Comprehensive Sexuality Education [CSE] or “Sexuality Education [SE]” posed to the health and future of their children and ultimately the nation.
The brief about the CSE is that it is a sex education program that promotes radical, liberal and perverted sexuality. It is informed by an ideology that claims that sexual rights are from birth to death and as such encourages children to experiment with every conceivable type and/or form of sexual activity. The CSE was passed at the UN a couple of years ago under dubious and unclear circumstance. This is because most developing nations were initially opposed to the CSE but were threatened or blackmailed into voting in favor of CSE. Because of this, CSE is supposed to be taught to children worldwide, including Uganda.
This CSE which was developed by promoters of a liberal agenda for society aims among other things, to deliberately increase sexual activity among children in the guise of “sexual rights” and provides sexual explicit information which is above the age of the children and is not age-appropriate to children. This CSE does not provide the necessary values or moral/ethical training that must accompany any responsible and credible sex education curriculum. This kind of sex education curriculum has wreaked havoc in Western nations having spent millions to little or no avail.
Another component included in the CSE is the universal and indiscriminate distribution of contraceptives to adolescents as young as 10 years old without parental knowledge, guidance or input. On November 27, 2014 a five-year program that includes providing contraceptives to school children as young as 10 years was launched. The program is heavily funded by some international donor agencies and some Western governments. One of the major reasons given to justify this program is the high rate of teenage pregnancies in Uganda.
While this intervention seems to make sense on face value, a closer look at it shows that it is only addressing the symptom and not the root cause of the problem. On November 25, 2014 for example, one Honorable Member of Parliament [MP] quoted research information that revealed that 400,000 girls are sexually abused by teachers in Uganda annually! The MP wondered what was being done to address this problem. Also when contraceptives are indiscriminately distributed to school children, what other effect(s) will it have on these children; what kind of future will children who begin using these contraceptives at such a tender age have? These are the many unanswered questions that must haunt any responsible parent who comes across this information.
It is against this backgroundthat the upcoming follow up parent-child seminar is being organized.
