The Audio Production Certificate will be issued for the completion of six core courses and two electives for a total of 24 units. The non-transfer Certificate in Audio Production is designed to prepare students for entry into careers associated with audio production, studio recording, mixing and live sound. This program specifically provides students with a strong foundation in hands-on and theoretical approaches to audio technologies, professional production skills, and accountability in individual and team interactions. Internships and special projects are also available. For individuals currently working within these fields, there may be potential for salary and/or career advancement.

This certificate program requires fewer credits than an A.S. degree and functions as an entry-level credential when entering the workforce. College credits granted with this certificate apply toward a related A.S. degree. Students may stack credentials to advance toward a higher degree level.

These state-of-the-art music business/production labs and recording studios provide the ideal instructional settings for MIDI, sound recording, mix-down, multi-track production, music business, music electronics, and commercial music performance.
The certificate provides a basic understanding of audio principles and practical hands-on experience that allows one to enter the commercial music workforce with a marketable skill set. Students will learn how to record and manipulate recorded sounds as well as provide live sound reinforcement for live concerts or events. A certificate may be pursued on its own or in conjunction with any university degree program.

The Audio Production Certificate is intended for individuals interested in professional music production. This includes careers in live sound, audio recording, radio and television production, and internet production. This certificate requires 24 credits in the courses listed below.
Description: Focuses on using non-linear editing software to combine visuals and sound for a variety of genres and media types including cinematic storytelling, documentaries, news, and web series. Includes editing theory and techniques; film history; and post-production workflow including ingesting media, editing, sound mixing, color correction, and final delivery.
Description: Introduces students to the application of fundamental multi-camera production techniques. Includes terminology, conceptualization, basic script writing, audio board operations, editing, shooting and lighting in multi-camera settings including live events, social media streaming and video conferencing. Description: Introduces the concepts, techniques, and vocabulary of motion graphics and compositing for motion picture, television broadcast, streaming, and other media outlets. Students will create, select, and manipulate video, photos, text, and vector assets within layered sequences for effective media communication.
Description: Introduces students to concepts in sound physics, psychoacoustics, room acoustics, signal flow and gain staging in both analog and digital domains, microphone specifications, microphone placement techniques, analog to digital conversion as well as ear training skills to be utilized in audio production applications.
Description: Teaches recording skills in studio and live sound environments. By conducting multi-track recording sessions, Also covers spectral, dynamic and time-based processing techniques, complex signal flow, parallel processing, live and overdub recording, comping, subgroups and bussing. Working within a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), Includes more complex routing in the digital realm along with proper archiving techniques. Live sound techniques will be demonstrated in our theaters and performances spaces giving students first-hand experience with design, setup and tear down of PA systems, location recording, microphone placement techniques, feedback treatment, room acoustics, live manipulation of a console, fold back, lighting and organization/management of a live event.
Description: Teaches proper mixing and mastering techniques in both the digital and analog domains. Prioritizes a thorough knowledge of digital processing via plugins while also conducting sessions in an analog studio. Explores proper spectral, spatial and dynamic mastering techniques with both digital and analog mastering chains with a focus on metering and loudness for various mediums, inter-sample peaks, SRC, dithering and creating a DDP image.
Description: Provides work experience in the audio or video arts technology fields. Credit is given for participation in a supervised work experience wherein an organized training plan will be followed. This course may be repeated twice for a maximum of three credit hours.

Description: Provides students with the skills required to identify and explain the basics of computing, IT, infrastructure, application and software, software development, database fundamentals and security. Contains basic computer maintenance and support principles. Includes computer science related topics including programming concepts and principles of software development and database design. Aligns to the CompTIA IT (ITF+) Fundamentals certification.
NOTE: Students must earn a final grade of C- or better in all required General Education and Technical Requirements and achieve a cumulative grade-point average of at least 2.0. A grade of C- or better is required in ENGL 1110G Composition I and designated Mathematics courses.
Students must complete all University certificate requirements to total at least 18 credits. Developmental coursework will not count towards the degree requirements and/or elective credits, but may be needed in order to take the necessary English and Mathematics coursework.

With many of the same courses required for the MA in Audio Technology with a concentration in music recording and production, the 15-credit graduate certificate in audio production provides advanced study in critical listening and audio production, recording, mixing, and technology. You will study under the same audio industry experts who teach our undergraduate and master's programs while earning certification in this exciting field. Credits can be applied to an MA.
