Rajeshwari was born 14 April 1975 in Mumbai. Her father is from Punjab, while her mother a south Indian. She completed graduation from Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Mumbai. She started her acting career through theatre plays and worked with IPTA as an artist. She made her film debut with Marathi film 'Aayatya Gharat Gharoba' (1991) directed by Sachin. Shyam Benegal's critically well acclaimed movie, Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda, released in the following year was her second movie. Later Shyam repeatedly casted her in his movies like Mammo (1994), Sardari Begum (1996), Samar (1999), Hari-Bhari (2000), Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero (2005) and Welcome to Sajjanpur (2008). She played supporting roles in all these movies. She played the role of real life character, Capt. Lakshmi Sahgal in Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero. She has worked with Shabana Azmi, Rajit Kapur and Nandita Das in many of Benegal movies.
Vishal Bhardwaj is the name to reckon with these days in Hindi cinema.
