Dear Neighbors, Family and Friends,

This year has been filled with weekly activity and amazing projects to keep our community moving forward. We have removed graffiti, cleaned up blighted lots, maintained and watered over 500 neighborhood trees and we have not missed a single weekend at St. Andrews Plaza. I think we can safely say we are one of the most active neighborhood groups in all of Oakland. THANK YOU!

Economic Development:

1) This month we need to have a formal meeting to discuss our position on the future of the Olivet Church site at 27th and West. As you may already  know this property is being considered for a new use. AutoZone would like to move in. Your feedback would be much appreciated.

2) Job Opportunity: West Oakland Green Initiative is going to Plant 90 trees along San Pablo Avenue. I am looking to hire 100% local. Would you like to participate?

3) We need to decide what to do with the St. Andrew's Plaza Grant. Action must be taken before the grant expires.

4) EmeryGoRound is looking for a location to park their buses in West Oakland. We need your feedback.

Community Development:

1. The Oakland Fire Department would like to come talk to us about emergency preparedness. The most recent studies show that "when" we have the next major earthquake a large percentage of our homes will not be inhabitable. We must be prepared. We must have a plan. Join us for a core training!

2. If we are serious about improving public safety we need to bring back Community Policing to our neighborhoods. We need your feedback and vision. 

3. We want to share with you new information and avenues we can explore to get our community garden moving forward at Market and 28th. 

Community Calendar:

1. Please join us every Saturday at 10am to clean St. Andrews Plaza. It is up to us to do all we can to improve our community.

2. If you are a tree-hugger we have over 600 trees for you to love. Every Saturday at 7:00am we go around doing tree maintenance around the neighborhood. We water, weed, prune and re-stake street trees. Having you will make it all the more fun!

3. Every first Saturday of the month join our awesome neighbor Stephanie Parrot and the Friends of Mandela Parkway as they clean and check on the entire avenue. They start at 9am at Mandela and 8th Street.

4. Don't forget our general neighborhood meeting on Wednesday, August 29th at McClymonds High School's library. 6:00pm.
