Dear Alex,

Let’s talk about growing food in the city! We're hosting three events this month that will give us the opportunity to do just that. Enjoy the sunshine while you join us on our Second Saturday tour or at our Backyard Garden Mentor Orientation, and then come out to our book event celebrating The Essential Urban Farmer with authors Willow Rosenthal and Novella Carpenter

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Transplanting Time!

Become a Backyard Garden Mentor

City Slicker Farms Backyard Garden Program assists low-income West Oakland residents who lack access to fresh, healthy foods by building edible gardens in their backyard.  Garden mentors provide each participant with quarterly follow-up visits for two years, which include technical assistance, seedlings and supplies.

Garden mentors are partnered with one or more families to provide follow-up assistance so that participants can build the skills to grow and prepare their own organic produce. Garden mentors commit to mentoring at least one family for at least a year and to attending quarterly garden mentor meetings.

Come learn about the program and how to be a garden mentor by attending one of the information sessions below.

WHEN:        Wednesday, May 16th from 6:00 - 8:00pm OR Saturday, May 19th from 10:00am - 12:00pm
WHERE:      Ralph Bunche Nursery / 1240 18th Street, Oakland, CA
