Dear Neighbors and garden loving friends,

Recently, one of my neighbors, went to the City of Oakland to express his discontent/concerns about our garden at Market and 28th Street. This action has not lowered my spirits, instead it has helped re-energized me and propelled me to take the next step. I am working with my personal Real Estate attorney to seek legal ownership of the parcell or at least a lease from the County. Until then, I have been advised to not install any permanent structures and to get a community petition signed by you and our neighbors. I will take this back to the City, and County authorities. Can you help me write and collect signatures?

I'd like to help.  What were the concerns of the neighbor?  Would you like to talk about it tomorrow?  We'll be there at 10, but by soon after 11 at least some of us will be going to the Mission to clean spray paint off the buildings that were vandalized on that deplorable Monday night.      Katy

Hi alex
So sorry to hear that someone in our own neighborhood had been such a thorn in your side. Our plan had such potential for positivity in our community.
I will be glad to sign a petition and help get more signatures.
Someone has to help our neighborhood grow into a more productive and friendly place to live.  This garden will help the whole community it baffles me that anyone would want to hinder this.

Who would rather have an empty lot than a lovely green space? I am not the greenest person on the planet, but still I would rather see a garden then garbage...who would do such a thing, honestly?

Dear Athena et al.,

I am sorry too. This was the weekend when we would have started to plant. The sun is out and the time is right. It is sad in deed.
At least the lot is fenced and it can't be gratified.

Lets work together to start a petition and start gathering signatures. Keith Carson will be our champion at the County level and Nancy at the local level.

Fear not!
The garden will happen.

Alex

This is really too bad. I hope Nancy can help. Have we thought about looking into other lots? There's one across the street from my mom's house that my mom's roommate's supposedly interested in gardening at.

best wishes,
Antal

Appreciate that the effort will continue starting with signatures. Curious, if there is a signature strategy in terms of who is covering which area? Are we targeting a certain mile radius from the garden site? Did the city outline specifically how many signatures we need/where they need to come from? New to this, just wanting to pool resources without folks covering the same territory.

peace love and carry on

Hi, I'm interested in the same questions as Brooke and can get started
collecting signatures today if the office is open and I can come by
around 3:30 to pick up a petition. I'll just stop by and see if
people are there and working. Katy

Hi Team,

The area to cover is not very large. We can go about 3 blocks in all directions.
We can do this in one weekend if we apply ourselves. If everyone is game, i will have the petitions ready this saturday at 10 am when we meet at St. Andrew's.

Thank you for caring.
