West Oakland Green Initiative Grant Application

Good day Tree-Hugging Friends,

Some of you may have already seen the grant opportunity below. I propose that WOGI applies for it (if we didn't already). This grant could be paired up with the NPI. We could use the funds to teach our West Oakland neighbors about the value of trees, tree care and how to plant trees. We have a one year maintenance period after we complete the NPI. This could coincide beautifully with this grant. In addition, I can see some of the money being used for our web-site if we find a way to impart useful knowledge via web.

Funding is available now to assist nonprofit and community-based groups throughout California with priority tree planting and tree care projects statewide. The California ReLeaf Urban Forestry and Education Grant Program is funded through contracts with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and Region IX of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Eligible applicants include incorporated nonprofit organizations and unincorporated community-based groups, with a financial sponsor, located in California. Individual funding requests range from $1,000 to $10,000.
