Thunderbird reply quoting

I'm a little confused. I've just started using Markdown Here in Thunderbird.

When I reply to an email, it gets automatically quoted by Thunderbird but not in the Markdown Here style. In order to get that styling, I need to paste the text back into the reply email after deleting the entire automatic quote.

If Markdown Here worked with text emails, it wouldn't be a problem as in a text email, the quote is correct for Markdown.

Am I missing an obvious (or not so obvious) solution?
