Been out a few times looking for elfins.  No luck yet.  I've even visited known sites, but nothing.  Either going to be a poor year or a late start- guess time will tell.  I haven't seen an azure yet either, so maybe it's just a late start to the season.  Still snow in woods and roadside in places.

I'm sure they'll be there...the season seems to be late everywhere
but I also think it is catching up rapidly. I think this is going to
be one of those years where the trees all seem to leaf out in about a
week.

I didn't see my first spring azure here in the Halifax area until May
2nd this year where I usually see the first ones by mid-April. We
also had unseasonably late snow and cold here but Spring has
definitely sprung down here...lots of things beginning to bloom.

Today I made my first trip away from my local haunts and saw azures
almost everywhere plus fresh brown and Henry's elfins in one
location. Also saw many whites, many in locales where I've seen both
cabbage and mustard whites before, but none of them even slowed down
never mind posing for photos. No duskywings yet but I rarely seem
them before the end of the month into the beginning of June.

Things are picking up fast...

Phil

I was out Saturday north of Amherst in seemingly suitable habitat and only
saw a few azures. Things seemed to pick up Sunday though - I walked a trail
to a bog east of Shediac and got Hoary Elfin and Brown Elfin.

With high expectations, I was also out on Saturday, on the Duncans Cove coastal/barrens trail, and along the dirt road up to ½ km inland (square # 20MQ52), but had no success seeing any butterflies. It seemed like a perfect spring day: the wind was very light (<10 km/hr), but was from the South-east off the water. So the temperature along the coast only got up to +13.5 C, and up to about 18 C in sheltered areas along the road (yes, there can be more than a 5-degree difference within less than 1/2 a km !). The weather has been drizzle and fog since then, with the temperature below 9 C, and a forecast for a cool and damp week.
