I do want to try and keep the discussions focused on Maritime topics,
just because it keeps the board 'for mariners' instead of turning it
into something it isn't. I think the government has a lot of great
jobs though and anyone who needs a job should definitely look into
getting a job with the government-federal state and local.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Lieutenant General Robert L. Van Antwerp became
the 52nd Chief of Engineers and Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers today. He assumed this position from Lieutenant General
Carl A. Strock who has retired after 36 years of military service.

-- The Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for maintaining
America's waterways. The new Chief of Enineers does not appear to have
much expereience in the maritime field, having a mostly traditional
Army/ engineer background. It is unlikely that this will affect
funding for dredging projects. A significant event nonetheless.
We wish Gen. VanAntwerp good luck as the new Chief.
Maybe if we didn't have ground pounders running the Corps year in and
year out our fleets would get more attention- throw a Navy man in
there for once would ya?
