Currently, my WinRAR installation shows all files from any archive in the root archive directory and I have no idea how to fix it nor I know what caused it as I did not change any settings I remember.

WinRAR creates now three RAR archives with the file names temp1.rar, temp2.rar and temp3.rar in folder c:\rar\ with each archive containing the appropriate folder with all files and subfolders.

And finally it makes sense to enter *.jpg on tab Files in edit field below Files to store without compression as JPEG files usually contain already compressed data and therefore WinRAR cannot really compress the data of the files further.

Here is also a batch file solution to move the files in all non-hidden subfolders of c:\rar\ and their subfolders into an archive file with name of the subfolder created in each subfolder as requested.

Please read the text file Rar.txt in the WinRAR program files folder for an explanation of RAR command m and the used switches. The question does not contain any information with which options the RAR archives should be created at all.

Read the Microsoft documentation about Using command redirection operators for an explanation of 2>nul. The redirection operator > must be escaped with caret character ^ on the three FOR command lines to be interpreted as literal character when Windows command interpreter processes this command line before executing command FOR which executes the embedded reg or where command line with using a separate command process started in background.

I have WinRAR and I want to add my .reg to the installer, but if i try adding the .reg file to the installer archive I get a cannot modify locked archive error. Is there anyway I can unlock the archive so I can add my file?

i dont believe you can unlock it to do that particular need,, i think its best to just unpack it and repackage it and if you just want to remake the same sfx package after adding the reg file that you desire,,, to get the same sfx style

Its the official WinRAR installer. Thats all the comment says but it installs properly. I managed to recreate it by building my own and copying each and every sfx entry from the original. Still would ne nicer if you could unlock it.

Previous to using Directory Opus 13, I had a button that created a Rar archive with a prefix of the current date and time and a suffix (note to myself). This button created an archive of the selected items in a folder. It worked well. The lines of code were such:

Now that I am using Directory Opus 13, the button always gives a error Unknown option "ma4". So, I figured that it could be something I did that does not work with this version or changes to version 13. So, I scrapped the button. I then tried to use the New Archive button under the New Folder button from Opus. It gives the same error. To be clear, this is when creating a Rar archive only. Does anyone know what is causing this? Thanks

When using the default archive manager () and trying to extract small files (< 1mB) the files keep getting bigger and bigger until the disk is full. What I mean by this is it keeps extracting and the extracted file keeps growing.

WinRAR self-extracting archive keep on popping up on my desktop and it looks like it installing but it never finish .i try to look for this program on my uninstall program but I can find it even if I search for it I can find it.

Have you recently installed any software or drivers, or anyone else who has access to that computer may have tried installing anything at all? Look in Control Panel > Programs and sort by date to see what was installed most recently (which may not show if installation was never completed, but it also might).

A malicious file, virus, trojan, ransomware, or even a blocked part of the install can also apply to your other post, so follow the advice there and here as if it applies to both and both are possibly related, until proven otherwise. - windows script host

Make sure you have data backups, but scan them for signs of infected files/downloads. Disk images and bare-bones system images also help with backup and restore in cases of infection, if you have a plan in place, now may be the time to test and use it.

This may be an installer for some software or driver that you tried to install, that part of it was blocked by your security software and it keeps running, and running, and running, never.

If this is a home computer, your best bet is to still reinstall everything. Being in IT you should have known to keep all of the resources to reinstall everything and have them on hand for such instances.

i have just downloaded imgburn. I want to change blu-ray discs (on my hard drive) to iso files mainly so I can use media center to play them through power dvd which it won't do unless they are iso's. I ran img burn on one and it seemed to create an iso file called rar archive. I have winrar 3.7 on my pc but I can't extract anything from the archive (even though it says it is 27gb) so I can't play it in any way. I don't really want an rar archive file so am I doing something wrong here.

WinRAR, a Windows utility to condense and expand files, is installed on college-administered Windows computers. Use WinRAR to backup and compress data, reduce the size of attachments you want to email to others, uncompress RAR, ZIP, and other files downloaded from Internet, and create new archives in RAR and ZIP file formats.

To extract files from a compressed format, right click on the file and select Extract files... or Extract Here or Extract to filename (shown). Extract files... lets you choose where the extracted files will be saved. Extract Here puts the files in the same directory as the compressed file. Extract to filename creates a folder with filename in the current folder and puts the extracted files there.

You can also go to Start All Programs WinRAR, then use the file browser to locate the compressed file or folder. Select the files or folders that need to be extracted and continue as above.

Because disk quota is always a finite resource, you may find that you need to archive files to free up space for other files. You can put archive files on a floppy disk, a ZIP disk, a flash drive, a CD or DVD, as well as leaving them on the local hard drive or network drive. Another reason to compress a file is to email a large file to someone whose mail space does not allow receiving a file as large as the uncompressed version. In both cases you can use WinRAR to compress files.

Compression method: Select a compression method: Store, Fastest, Fast, Normal, Good, Best. If speed is your concern, set to Fast or Fastest. If you want the highest compression possible, select Good or Best. Normal compression is good for regular backups.

To create a compressed file that extracts itself when you double click on its icon, follow the instructions above, but select Create SFX archive under Archiving options.

I have a text file in a compressed file (RAR/ZIP). On my desktop, I happen to be able to edit it, and then WinRAR or 7-Zip sends a message saying the text file was changed and asking if I want to update it.

The same thing seems impossible to do in Android 8.1.0. I have tried ZArchiver, ZArchiver Pro, RAR from Rarlab, and several text editors, but in the end, the zip file is never updated with the changes I make in the text.

I also tried MiXplorer and MiX Archive (the archive plugin), and although it's a powerful tool, it's not working. When I try to save the text file, it says "Not supported!" regardless of the zip or rar file. I wonder if it's because the archive has a password. It also seems it can't open the zip file directly from the Dropbox app, providing the same "not supported!" error.

Does anyone know a way? Or a way that allows me to set a password on a text file that is cross-platform between Android and Windows? Any hint, or any other tool I could try? In the settings of MiXplorer, it doesn't seem anything could help.

Hey guys im having a problem opening folders I have downloaded from dropbox. I have since deleted it from dropbox (so cant try reloading the files). I have tried opening it 3 on different computers and im getting the same message. I tried using both windows 7 and windows 8.1

How big is this Zip file? Dropbox is known to have problems creating Zip files larger than 1GB or so. If you're using the built-in Zip support that Windows has, I would try a program like WinRAR, 7Zip or WinZip. Otherwise you may be out of luck.

Same here. Only, my compressed folders are from 1 to 116 MB. Not very large... I can't open any of the files when extracted, all broken. Pictures, txt files, pdf files, html files, mp3 files, nothing opens...

A strange thing happed to me... I've kept the broken zip archives - and they all work now, four weeks later. I changed my OS in the meantime (Mint to Ubuntu) but I don't know if that made any difference... I tried extracting one file at a time and all at once and it works, no problems whatsoever. Maybe you should try extracting one file at a time from the broken archive or something like that, or change the OS xD

Thanks so much for this answer. It worked for me and i have recovered hundreds of photos from my travels. If you are ever in nz let me know and i will buy you a beer!

Big shout out to mactorque who sorted it for me since i can hardly even turn a Mac on!

Its crazy that dropbox was not able to help with this issue.

Before you posted this I managed to get in touch with dropbox customer support which took a bit of hunting! However they repeatedly told me the fault was my doing, didn't believe what was happening to me and offered no solution!

Thanks so much!
