As you have now probably heard over the radio that we the Augustine House Old Boys are beginning our focus for the bazaar this year with a meeting as early as this Friday 17^th of February 2017 at the MRC Club to begin our plans for our fundraising drive for this year.

 

I believe the other 3 houses have already started their meetings too so it’s only fair that we as part of the great big MBHSOB begin our quest for this year.

 

Please if you can send in nominations of some names that your think is capable to lead you in our fundraising drive in your different decades. 70s/80s/90s/2000+ Please remember that the person you nominate should be willing to be the one and not forced into the working committee.

 

So see you all on Friday at 7pm.

Good Morning Brothers,

 

Firstly I would like to mention that I am honoured to lead Augustine this year knowing that I have your full support as we begin our journey together to make this year one of our most successful not only in terms of the amount we collect but especially in our friendship and  bond as AUGUSTINE brothers working together in our similarities and differences that we will continue to develop so that we will grow to know and respect one another more.

 

The working committee has  now collectively agreed and confirmed to have our barrel night on the Friday 24^th of March at the ONYX nightclub and this will be our first fundraiser for 2017 to also bring us together to get to know each other and embark on our journey together this year in our efforts to make it an exciting year for Augustine.

 

I would like to thank those that have come forward with their donations that will assist us in this our first fundraiser and continue to ask those that can assist at this moment to come forward with whatever you can give which we will very much appreciate. We have in our bank account $250 balance from last year just for your information.

 

The tickets are now being done and as soon as this is ready we will announce and will begin with the distribution.

 

Looking forward to your usual support for the year.

Here is our update for the sales of our barrel night tickets which is going well and we still have tickets remaining to be sold so please if you want to give in your names for even a couple of tickets please just go down to the guys I have mentioned below Manoa Makaba at FDB or Vodo Shaw to pick up your tickets.

 

Today is also the first Friday Mass and MOB is having their Mass at St Agnes Parish in Nabua at 6.00pm so if you are heading back home in that direction and not busy this evening please stop over to join our other brothers for Mass.

 

We will be calling for another meeting next week where we can update on our barrel night sales and please with all tickets sold just put this straight into our account or if it’s easier for you to give it to the working committee next week when we have our meeting and they can have it banked for you.

That is supposed to be the case here. When you take tickets from Manoa/Vodo or myself the tickets are written under your name and you are responsible for collecting the money from whoever you sell this too.

I hope you are enjoying your Friday morning.

 

A big thank you to those that have managed to get a few tickets to assist in the sales for our fundraising drive on the 24^th of this month. There are a few still remaining and ask those that have not picked up any ticket to at least take 1 ticket to assist. The update of the sales is as per the table above.

 

We will be having a meeting this afternoon from 6pm at the MRC to those that are free where we will be updating on our ticket sales and to give in ideas for our next get together after the barrel night.

 

There has been some ideas floating around for us to have a smaller one next where we will just have a kati and curry night at the same time which we will decide on the dates this evening at our meetings.

 

There are more exciting stuff that we will be able to do to raise our funds for the target this year and come October we will just be there to enjoy ourselves and give in what we have managed to raise so come on down to the Marist Club tonight to discuss more on this.

 

Above is our Agenda for the evening and hope to see most of you there. This will not take much of your time as it will be brief and to the point before you leave to be with your families again.

 

Those that want to stay and carry on with their discussions are most welcome.

Good Morning Augustine Team,

 

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors and all those that assisted in the barrel night selling their tickets and also came down to assist at the door. Please also send out our appreciation to those that bought our tickets and came down to enjoy the function.

 

There was a fairly good crowd that was there but not the 300 that we had anticipated but all tickets were distributed to our house members for sale.

 

We had some good feedbacks from those that attended some saying that the beer lasted longer than usual which was good and also the fingers foods that we had spent some money on was delicious which is a good sign as we will be able to do another one later in the year and get good results as we have set the standard in our first one.

 

We ask those that have been given tickets and are still yet to give in their monies to please pass this on so that we could reconcile our finances and have this finalised by the end of this week if possible.

 

We were able to make just a little over $1,000 at the door looking at the tickets that were given and the sales at the door which was noted and the sealed container have just been handed over to me from the team that assisted at the door on that night.

 

The listings will also be updated and sent out.

 

We will be meeting again at the Marist Rugby Club on Thursday 30^th March after work at 6pm to go through this again and also discuss some information from our MOB EXECUTIVE regarding the 200 years MARIST CELEBRATIONS coming up in June apart from our next get together.

Good Morning Gentlemen,

 

We couldn’t have a proper meeting last Thursday because of the poor turnout as there was only 3 of us and then there were a couple others that came in later for the Marist Sevens de-briefing which was also to be held on the same night. I apologise for that as I had no idea it was on the same night.

 

There were a few of us that gave their apologies thank you. I was thinking that from now on we have just the working committee to meet and the results are given out to the others unless you are free and you are most welcome to join us.

 

I propose to call another meeting for this Thursday the 6^th of April 2017 as we plan our next function which is the Kati and curry night which is to be finalised and also the launching of the Augustine shirt design competition which will be open to all and the winner will be chosen after we have all designs come in by a given date and the winner will be picked to be our shirt design for 2017. We will also have prizes for the winner.

 

Okay for the Barrel night that was held on the 24^th of April we were able to make about $2,305 cash after all the expenses including the 5 barrels, finger foods and tribe drink that was purchased for the function as we continue to collect from those that have taken tickets to be sold.

 

Thank you again to all that sponsored and assisted in the selling of the tickets and also to those that gave up their time to be at the door to collect during the barrel night.

 

Just some quick updates from the MOBA meeting that the house leaders were invited to attend last Wednesday for the one week 200 years Marist celebration that the Old Boys will be a part of this June 2017 from Sunday 4^th of June – Saturday 10^th of June. This is how the program looks like but some details to be confirmed.

 

Sunday 4^th June – Opening Mass @ 11am Lambert Hall followed by lunch hosted by the four houses.

Monday 5^th June – Official opening of MOBA Secretariat just by the school grounds.

June 6^th June – Champagnat Day & MBHS 80^TH anniversary – visitation to Naililili and current Marist Brothers

Wednesday 7^th June– Mobilise Proper 10am venue to be confirmed

Thursday 8^th June – MOBA AGM 5pm

Friday 9^th June – Golf tournament at least 2 teams per house to represent the 4 houses

Saturday 10^th June – Fun Day program TBC. Mobilise Ball 6.30pm Novotel.(ticket for the ball $50 each)

 

There will be Merchandise sold for this occasion and there will be packages like $100 for Ball tickets, Shirt, Vest and so forth which will be finalised shortly.

 

I will continue the updates as the meeting progresses with MOBA and give you the final program when done.

I would just like to inform you as last week was again a no forum as only 3 of us came to meet and I know you are all preparing for Easter with you families so I just thought that it might be easier just to have meetings on emails and decision is made and we carry on from there.

 

We had earlier planned to have a get together this month after Easter, not the week after as it’s the end of school term and the Fiji Finals but the week after that which I am leaving it to the floor for your commitments to have this Kati maybe on the 28^th or 29^th of April which will be during the 1^st term school holidays. Those that are able to donate prizes for the Kati are welcome to do so as I have already have a few who are willing to give bottles of spirit but we could also look at other prizes that will entice people into buying of cards like Meat Packs or Grocery packs or even movie tickets.

 

We can also now start designing for our shirts and I am suggesting to have the cut-off for this on the 20^th of May so that we could choose the winner and have the orders taken and shirts printed. If we are on time with our plans than we could start selling by June which is also the month for the 200 years bi-centennial celebration of the beginnings of the Little Brothers of Mary as we were formerly known before we became MARIST.

 

Someone had also suggested that we have a movie night as one of our options of fundraising which we will explore the costs and how this is run with the cinema company and factor this into one of our fundraisings later in the year.

 

So let’s keep our drive alive and keep that fire and spirit burning within us.

I believe that you all had a blessed and wonderful Easter with your families. I know that most of us, if not all of us felt that connection again with our God in the way it was celebrated during that long weekend services and reflections.

 

Just reminding you all about the shirt design competition which is now open to all and those that are related in any way to our house and the Kati that is coming up at the end of this month which we are planning to have 2 decks sold for 20 cuts at $10 per card.

Well done to our Marist Athletics team over the weekend.

 

Just a quick one because of the shortness of time we have until our next fundraiser which was planned for this Friday the 28^th of April and just two of our team members volunteering to give donation for the prizes, I suggest that we just use this Friday to come together and soli and we can distribute and do our Kati nicely next month.

 

This is just a suggestion. What do you guys think? Do you think we should carry on with the Kati for the month of April or what. Please I need your ideas so that we will keep the momentum of our fundraising and not let this go to sleep again.

Good Afternoon Augustine Team,

 

Firstly my apologies for not coming on that Friday as we had an urgent family meeting that I just couldn’t get away from but called Alfred Peckham to chair the meeting which I heard only 5 of us attending. I have just returned from leave as we also had a family wedding last week.

 

Alfred did call me back and ,mentioned that it was just a discussion that they outside the school and went on their way.

 

I can see that the interest maybe is still not as we had anticipated because some may think that the Bazaar is still a long way away and they will just come in when its closer but that should not be the case as its easier that we do this slowly and have something every month so when the time comes we will not struggle as much.

 

There was also only a handful that agreed to donate prizes for the Kati as we needed as least 10 prizes the reason we did not have the Kati and asked to have just a soli.

 

I will leave this open to you all to please consider what type of fundraising you would prefer to have every month or would you prefer to just have a soli of $10 or $20 a month for each member straight into the account?

 

I also have a suggestion from one of our members that we have a movie night this month and this can only happen if the majority agrees so that we can sell the 286 tickets allocated for that particular Cinema but we can make a good amount if all tickets are sold.

We have the cost analysis done and if we agree to go ahead the tickets could be printed and circulated so that we have this by the 25^th of May.

 

The movie will be PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN 5 and screening will be exclusively ours before it opens to the public.

 

The cost per ticket would be $7 and we can sell for $15 as it will be a premier and we sell to our families and friends, we could even throw in a 1 hour cocktail in the foyer of the cinema for our guests before the movie if we think that this will entice the buying of the tickets or promote our future fundraisers. I don’t know but whatever it is I believe it is a win/win if we have this for one of our fundraisers.

 

I say again that it will only be possible with your support and efforts so please give in your views to the wider loop so that others will know we are all talking on the same page.

I agree with George with regards to the Movie Night as it should bring in $2,288.00 just from ticket sales.

 

If we throw in a cocktail with nibbles & soft drinks of say $500, that should give our house a net proceeds of $1,788.00.

 

If we make $1,500 from this event, it is a win/win as there is little effort in organising this event.

 

Plse support our Augustine House as draw closer to bazaar & more importantly the celebrations next month, MOB AGM & Mobilise 2017.

 

Depending on forthcoming prizes, we should determine when we will have the kati. If we have all targeted prizes by next week, we should go on with the ati by end May. Otherwise move kati to early June.

Movie night sounds ideal given the low operational and preparation costs....we just need to make sure we sell the required number of tickets to boost our profit margin.

The suggestion by Eric for the pre-movie finger foods sounds great and should be a favourite. If we can live with $15 a ticket which includes the pre-movie finger foods then fine. Otherwise we can consider increasing the ticket cost to cover for the finger foods

I attended a recent movie fundraiser by the Yat Sen Alumni where they had pre-movie finger foods/drinks and it was good as the event was well attended by mums & dads and their children and the movie was packed to capacity.

I can see that more now are in agreement with the movie but we have to now agree on the pricing and if we think that even $20 a ticket will be reasonable for a premier such as PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN 5 than we go ahead with that, taking into account the finger food cost and drinks to precede the movie.

 

We will now go back to the cinema to confirm on finger foods arrangement and if we are going to have wine for our patrons and the final costing.

 

We also will have to take ticket design back to the cinema for approval as we have to put in a condition which is a directive from the Fiji Censor Board because we are selling prior to the rating of the movie such as ‘SUBJECT TO RATING BY FIJI CENSOR BOARD’

 

Thank you again to all that have come back with your agreement and comments in support of this fundraiser.

 

I will keep you all updated on this until we have tickets to begin distribution as we have only two weeks to sell these tickets.

I can see that more now are in agreement with the movie but we have to now agree on the pricing and if we think that even $20 a ticket will be reasonable for a premier such as PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN 5 than we go ahead with that, taking into account the finger food cost and drinks to precede the movie.

 

We will now go back to the cinema to confirm on finger foods arrangement and if we are going to have wine for our patrons and the final costing.

 

We also will have to take ticket design back to the cinema for approval as we have to put in a condition which is a directive from the Fiji Censor Board because we are selling prior to the rating of the movie such as ‘SUBJECT TO RATING BY FIJI CENSOR BOARD’

I attended a recent movie fundraiser by the Yat Sen Alumni where they had pre-movie finger foods/drinks and it was good as the event was well attended by mums & dads and their children and the movie was packed to capacity.

Vinaka Gentlemen,

 

It is good to see the enthusiasm and the spirit shown maybe because of the type of fundraising that suits most of us maybe, nevertheless yes we are noting down the names but still getting confirmation from the cinemas about this and should be finalised shortly.

 

I have also had a few feedbacks about having the ticket prices to be kept at $15 and we look for sponsors for the finger foods and drinks to precede the movie. One of the main reason being, some have big families and the cost of buying tickets for example 4 to 5 members as they would also like to have everyone enjoy this together as a family.

 

Another reason would be it will be easier to sell going back to our barrel night ticket which was really not as we anticipated as not all ticket monies have come back so if we can have this still at $15 and try our best to sell the 268 tickets we would still make good profit without being overzealous and find out we cannot finish selling out tickets.

 

So just a suggestion to keep it at $15 and we get sponsors for the finger foods and drinks.
