Hello,

I agree with you 100%

Parents are supposed to pay fees which is understood.

Shareholders need to work their maths to pay for growth of the school and other fixed developments.

The k40000 is not justified, the school need to play around with the New fees structure to finance such developments.

Hopefully I am well understood.

Dear All,

Hoping all of us had a blessed crossover to 2015 except the unfortunate incident that robbed the life of our fellow parent in Blantyre, may his soul rest in peace. Happy and prosperous new year to you all. I am sure all of us have received letters on the adjustment of school fees and financial updates. With the big jump in the school fees, the adjustment in PTA contribution and the proposed K40,000.00 development contribution per ward, to be honest I have personally been financially overstretched. Probably, it is not only myself. I am just wondering whether the role of PTA in a private education institution like ours need to be rethought or revisited. This is just my thought after feeling the financial burden which I need to somehow surmount. How are others feeling?

May you experience the joy and peace from the Lord in 2015.

Dear all,
Are we talking of the same 40,000 which was meant for improvement of Water and other PTA projects a year also? I have also noted that we are owing up to 13 m to the School and yet our wards have to eat everyday? If we have not paid by now is that 40,000 meant for whatever relevant now to the souring economy being experienced now. Its time we learn from Kenyans that education has to be paid for and citizens are responsible for those costs.
Let's avoid replicating what is happening in public learnig institutions where some students just want to reap on taxpayers. Bravo to PTA members for dreaming in color
HAPPY NEW YEAR

We also need new hostels better than the existing ones. Can PTA look into this too? Will you agree on this?

Marist is a private school, growth and expansion is the responsibility of the shareholders. I rest my case...

Get a  bank loan, write proposals, invest the profits back into school expansion are some of the means the school need to look into ... just figure that out...

Dear All,

Much as I would have loved to continue having updates of the going-ons at Marist Sec. School, I would appreciate it if I could now be taken off the mailing list as my ward is no longer at the school having graduated two years back.

I wish the school and the students all the best.

Regards and a Happy 2015 filled with abundance, promise and prosperity to you all.

Dear Mr. Chiona and  Mr. Matipwiri,

I have been following the debate with keen interest. I understand you well. But I am wondering if you have been attending PTA meetings, particularly the AGM in October 2014.

This issue was thoroughly discussed and the position that the PTA Secretary (the Headmaster) has communicated  to you parents on behalf of the PTA, was adopted.  For the record, the school or its owners have at no point asked for development money from us parents. The idea came from us, concerned with the plight of boys. It is not fair to suggest that the school is forcing you to do developments for them.  You may recall  that the first letter on this matter (dated 5th February 2014) came from me as agreed at previous meeting, herewith attached for your easy reference. In case you missed the last AGM, we reported that the school moved in project numbers 2 – 4; and we (PTA) made a contribution (from parents that had paid by then).

The outstanding and big, yet very critical   project is No. 1:  Dining Hall of the students.  I encourage parents to respond positively. As agreed at the  AGM, the MK40,000.00 contribution is NOT optional.  If I recall correctly, we gave parents of form ones a grace period of 1 year (i.e. 3 terms) since they were hearing about it for the first time; while the rest were given up to two terms.

Sorry for the long e-mail; but I thought I should shade some light.  If something is still not clear, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best regards and happy new year to you all.

Levis Eneya

Dear Dr Eneya,

Thank you for your email. My posting was not intended to indicate or suggest that we are being forced to contribute to development of the school. But I was just putting forward whether there would be need to rethink or revisit the role of the PTA in the wake of the mounting financial contributions that we parents are supposed to make particularly as regards a private education institution set up. Probably it is only myself who has felt it, but I wanted just to be honest to indicate my financial stress. It could be because I never anticipated such a big jump in the school fees.

Kind regards,

Lingstone

Dear All,

I think the parents' duty is to pay the fees, the school admin should indeed play around with the fees monies to finance those other projects.

If the admin feels the fees is not enough, let them do something about it.

Will my ward be sent back if I fail to pay anything outside the fees structure?

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have a suggestion! Marist should consolidate ALL monies that are paid i.e. fees and PTA fund into one! Instead of calling it MK200,000 fees and MK40,000 for this and the other MK3000 for that, we should be asked to pay MK243,000! That way the parents will know that they are obligated just one payment!

Those parents, who are like me and can't plan their financial responsibilities and treat January financial challenges as a Disaster should endeavor to attend a Financial Management Course for non Finance Fathers to learn how to "keep" priority financial responsibility that come in January at the back of their planning pad starting from February, to ensure that the next year's January doesn't become another Disaster Month! I can also suggest that as a Privately owned academic institution, parents may have very little to engage on school policy, as such if we can't Marist requirements, we have an option of taking our wards out of the school and try a cheaper affordable school! My friendly warning though is that you may not get similar quality!

I thought I should throw my weight on the clarification that Dr Eneya provided, and let's pay up MK40,000 to contribute to the school development because this is what we agreed to do.

Ndangodutsamo, Nkhwani sindinatchole!

Parents,

I wish to join in on the issue of K40,000.00 Development Fund. I think we should regard the Development factor here as our legacy. It is not only our child there now who is going to benefit from the structures we erect today. Our grand children will in future also enjoy these facilities we are building today. In fact a child bearing our name in future stands more chance of being accepted at the school as long as our ward and indeed we as parents leave a good name at Marist secondary school today. so lets regard these requests as our chance to leave a lasting legacy for ourselves. Remember, we can even pay in instalments as long as we pay up the required amount.
This is just my contribution to the issue  as a concerned parent.

Felix,

You are right in fact some of us have started enticing children of our in-laws now in Standard 7 to work hard and enroll for Marist Secondary School and us will assist them with fees.

This is what we are setting even if our children are about to finish and hope this gesture can flow in many of us. The little we contribute now will make a big difference in the near future,

Bye for now.
