I've just looked at the Youtube version of Non Ti Scordar Di Me and am
not completely happy with this rendition. Do you know the history
behind it and when it was recorded? Are you familiar with a better
version? This is the link to see it.

Thank you Derek for the Earthbound link. Is it available in a non
Youtube version so I can download it to my files of songs? I hope we
can listen to the new songs mentioned in the recently released CD once
we find a way to share them and analyze them for their quality.

Warm regards

Emilio

Ciao Emilio: Lanza's version of Non Ti Scordar di Me was recorded in
April 1952 for the Coke Shows. He only made the one recording of this
song, and it was not released commercially until 1993 (on the very
patchy "Don't Forget Me" CD). The session that it comes from wasn't
exactly one of Mario's shining hours in the recording studio; on the
same day, he recorded very disappointing versions of Santa Lucia
Luntana and Maria Mari', both of which required multiple takes, and
uneven renditions of 'Na Sera 'e Maggio and Musica Proibita. Happily,
though, he recorded vastly superior versions of all four of these
songs in 1958-59. To me, Non Ti Scordar di Me represented his best
effort that day, and the opening verse ("Partirono le rondini...",
etc) is nicely done.

All the best
Derek

Derek, Hello my friend! As far as "Non ti scordar di me" goes, I
have always been bothered by the obvious splice at the very end..."non
ti scord//ar di me!" What do you know of it and is there indeed a
clean, straight through version? Ciao, Tony

Hi Tony: I've never been aware of any splice at the end of Non Ti
Scordar di Me! I did hear the raw tape once, and, apart from a false
orchestral start, the recording was done in one take. Have a listen to
the original broadcast, and tell me if you can still hear an edit:

Derek and Tony,
I listened carefully and I could not hear an edit. Great song.
Did you both know that the Mario Lanza Ball always ends with this
playing and always starts with "I'll Walk With God"? Good choices to
get people in the mood and then leave them wanting more!

Hi Guys,

I listened to your take Derek, and the one on the DON'T FORGET ME CD.
I believe you are right, there is no splice. But something I believe
did happen at the end. It may have been a bit of a glottal stop on
Mario's part, or even the tape stalling for a fraction of a second.
If you listen carefully, you can hear it as Mario sing the final line;
"Non ti scordar di me." It happens on "...scorda-ar di me." Perhaps
I am imagining things, but there is something that's just not quite
right about that moment - at least not to my ears. I'll keep on
listening though and see if I can figure out exactly what it is.
Strange, I think.

Cheers,

Tony
