Did Mario ever meet Jeanette McDonald?

I’m still a sucker for the almost 100 yr old movie “MAYTIME” and today as I watched it on TCM I tried to imagine Mario playing in Nelson Eddie’s role. I think Lanza would have done a great job as he was very good with all Rhomberg’s music. Since both Mario and Jeanette McDonald were born in Philadelphia, I wonder if they ever met?
