Yes the fleet runs Dash 8's, I believe there is 4 of them only have not had the chance to catch the others for a photo yet.
The Australia Maritime Safety Authority [AMSA}, federal government SAR authority run the service in cooperation with AUS MRCC. [www.amsa.gov.au]

    Hello Hamn,

Your post said that all SAR aircraft have an MMSI. This is not true.

Lots of them do, but in the US (and maybe other areas) not all of them do,
so you could be watching a search area using AIS through marinetraffic.com
or another source and never see an aircraft position report. AIS message
type 9 is used for aircraft to report position, but equipping an aircraft
with an additional VHF transceiver is not as simple as adding one to a boat.
Aircraft that are owned by governments are usually under strict
configuration control and engineering changes take years to be incorporated.
Additionally, aircraft that perform law enforcement or military missions in
addition to SAR generally do not broadcast their positions via AIS.

I think I have seen aircraft in US waters on MT; you might check aprs.fi for
a particular MMSI. Enter it in the callsign box and you may get lucky. It
requires a local ham to be monitoring AIS traffic and providing a feed to
aprs.fi. The Portland helo showed up about 9 hours ago on this site.

    Cheers,

    Walter

    Hi Prospero

Sorry I don't Understand your reply, I have logged several hundred SAR
Aircraft, not only within the EU but also World Wide that have MMSI numbers,
as well as ACARS Numbers (ACARS is the aviation equivalent of MMSI ) this
enables them to be identified on Vessel displays for Co ordination, In fact
one of the other Vessel Tracking sites has the ability to display them sadly
this is not used in MT unless you know the MMSI Number and how to insert it
    into MT

As An Example The MMSI Number of The Portland UK SAR Helicopter Is 111232506

    Regards Hamn

Hopefully if MTare watching This forum,

When are we going to get back the show on map feature in Itineraries
    History, Showing Correct Information
