a linux distro

I have a fairly old dell latop only 233mhz with 128meg.I have been
trying to find a small linux distro say to run of HD or CD the will
use the inbuilt soundcard and forward on the data via the internet to
marine traffic.As i have the chance to install a remote recieving
station.I have a reciever and the laptop.I dont want to spend any
cash.
All the laptop will need to do is decode the audio and forward on the
nmea date via the net. dont need any graphics maybe just a txt
screen of data flowing.
my only down side is I do not know linux any suggestions
