to Marine Ornamental Importers
Dear Industry Members,
Many of us did not previously know, but Black Tip Reef Sharks
(Carcarhinus species all of them! ) have been illegal to possess in
the states of California, Nevada, Arizona and maybe more.
This law has been in effect with the California Department of Fish and
Game since the early 1990's, but most of us were unaware.
Sea Dwelling Creatures has just recently received it's first permit
from DFG to legally import, hold and export these sharks.
Retailers, Aquarists and Public Aquariums all need to have a permit to
keep these types of sharks.....especially if you are in the states
previously mentioned.
Fines for being caught with these sharks have been seen up to $1800
per shark, per incident. This is not to be taken lightly, and we hope
that everyone in our industry will do the right thing and make sure to
check the regulations in your state to make sure you are in
compliance!
Best regards,
Eric
