Hello!

How are you? I'm very good! Why, you ask?

Because EIGHTEEN YEARS!

Just yesterday I hit my eighteenth anniversary of comics making! Can you believe it? EIGHTEEN YEARS! To celebrate, I've brought a few out-of-print comics back from the dead, remastered and reprinted. But it's a very limited edition, so if you're interested in getting some for yourself, you've got to act fast. Those are for sale at my store as the "Estrus Bundle": http://marinaomi.com/store.html

KISS & TELL: A ROMANTIC RESUME, AGES 0 TO 22

I've recently heard from HarperCollins that my first graphic memoir, Kiss & Tell, is on its second printing. What does that mean? I think it means that over five thousand people know intimate details about my adolescent love life. It also probably means that the cover price will be going up, which means you should swipe up all the sixteen dollar copies you can find (or sixteen cents on Amazon, haha ugh) while you can. I only have a handful left, which I'm selling at my store, signed and inscribed. http://marinaomi.com/store.html

DRAGON'S BREATH AND OTHER TRUE STORIES

My most recent book Dragon's Breath and Other True Stories continues to get great reviews! Of course, I am utterly delighted by this. I continue to collect these reviews (and interviews) on my Dragon's Breath page, which I occasionally visit when I'm feeling blue. Validation from critics is the same thing as validation as a human being, right? http://marinaomi.com/dragonsbreath.html

TURNING JAPANESE

I've been busy busy busy getting ready for the publication of my next book this fall. Turning Japanese is a graphic memoir recounting my early-twenties attempts to connect with my culture by working at hostess bars in San Jose and Tokyo. Here are some peeks:

My publisher 2D Cloud has started booking my fall tour, which begins in Maryland at SPX. If you'd like to have me speak at your local bookstore or college, please let me know. I have a nifty visual presentation that goes with my readings, not unlike the trailer I posted above.

Or, if you would like to review the book (or know of some good places to send it), please don't hesitate to let me know about that, too. I need all the help I can get to get the word out.

DATABASES

My Cartoonists of Color and LGBTQ Comics databases continue to thrive. 791 PoC and 245 LGBTQ comics creators and counting! Moreso, I've been regularly promoting many of these cartoonists on the Twitter pages I made for the databases. @CoCdatabase and @LGBTQcomics if you want to follow.

Well, that's all I have for now. Please feel free to write back and tell me how you're doing. I appreciate you being on my mailing list.

Warmly,
Mari
